key stuck

key stuck

My key is stuck in ignition of my '02 996Turbo. Car still runs but headlights and ac don't work. Any suggestions. Car was valeted before this happened.

First i assume you tried rotating the steering wheel back and forth then you may need a new ignition switch

You assumed correctly. Thanks for the insight, hopefully it is just an ignition switch. Will find out today.

They do go bad, mine would rotate around in circles occasionally.
I had mine replaced. Easy fix.

We had this happen to friend on his 996. A failed ignition switch is not an unusual problem. There is a locking pin that pops out and holds the key on. He used a small screwdrive to push it in and pull the key out, but you may want to get it to the dealer first - otherwise your ability to steer the car will be impacted.

Thanks, guys, you were right. Dealer handled it for $430 out the door. I could have probably had it done cheaper, but I can't stand being without the car for too long.
