K24 Potential
K24 Potential
I apologize if this topic/question has been beaten to death - I have searched and read through several topics concerning the K24s but most of them pertain to comparing them with other turbos such as the hybrids.
Short and simple,
When running regular K24s with stock fueling but a good tune - what is the max hp potential? Can you get more out of k24s if you upgrade the fueling?
Lastly,
What do the average well-built k24 cars run in the 1/4? Would it be worth going with K24/18G turbos if the car already has k24s on it? How much of a gain would one expect to see?
Thanks for any help,
Micah

Good question. You can see from my mods what I've done with the K24s.
My last remaining thought is that the FPR might be close to 100% at peak output. Mine runs fine now, and I am at WOT near redline a small fraction of my running time. Still, I'd like to address this- easy enough to do.
I suspect output is 550-600 with these upgrades? I am boosting 1.2 on (CA) pump gas. 1.3 with 100 octane. Haven't done dyno.

Ard- crank or wheels?
The 24/18 cars without fuel make in the neighborhood of 500-525 on pump at 1.1 and 600 on race gas at 1.3. That is wheel hp NOT crank. And it IS with a 5bat fpr
Micah- look some of the the 60-130 times .....I think you'll find the difference pretty staggering.

Ard: I asked the very same question the other day....more specifically about what the indie felt the duty cycle for the injectors would be given your (and now my same mods) upgrades.....and was informed that using the EP with the basic tune, DV's and wastegate kit....you're probably looking at around 500-520 rwhp....add in another 30 HP with race gas....and that the injectors were running around 87-92% on California 91 gas. It didn't appear that you needed to go the 5 bar FPR until you hit the 600 mark. I'd reallly like to find a reputable AWD dyno dude who could run the car to see what sort of AFR's I'm getting at WOT. I regularly see 1.1 and 1.2 on boost.
And BTW...thanks again for the help the other day.

I was estimating crank... an amalgam of what I'd read..not even butt dyno!
I'd read that above 80% duty cycle the control becomes more difficult.

the biggest bang for the buck by far is a car with K24's going with the Protomotive hybrids and tuning. car is simply amazing and is more than 99% of what anyone could ever ask for in a super car.
I'm afraid that I'm done with the mods....I'm taking and boiling the bark of the Chinchona tree mixed with burnt pigeon feet and drinking it three times a day..... that keeps me emotionally stable from becoming tempted by all this talk of more HP.

Thanks for all the help guys. So if I were to start with a stock 996TT, it would most likely be the best bang for the buck to go with Protomotive's K24/18 Hybrid setup? Can you buy it as a kit - Turbos, FPR, ECU/Tuning?
Do they have an official site that works - I went to their website but none of the links on it really work - I can't find any info on the kits they sell...?
Do they also have a good 600-700hp clutch kit for the K24 setup?

Website isn't really up to snuff, but just call him and he'll give you low down and pricing.
Not sure on the clutch.
Sounds great.
Also,
To go on a small tangent - what are some of the best exhaust systems for the 996tt when dealing with K24s or K24/18 hybrids?
If you go catless, can companies like evoms or protomotive set the ecu up so that the service engine light doesn't come on? Or is it best to go with a racing/high flow cat setup and not worry about deleting the cats?
Also, when dealing with headers - is it worth it (~$2800) to upgrade to the external waste gates/dump tubes when runing k24/18s or simply k24s?
It seems like if one were to go with the K24/18 hybrid setup it'd almost be just as much as the evoms GT610 kit - which includes everything except the exhaust itself (if you're starting with a stock 996). So which setup GT610 or K24/18 would be the best bet?
Thanks again for the help guys!

Reading what is in the GT610 'kit' it looks like.... two turbos, a flash and 6 plugs.
I'd focus on the TURBO technology and the flash...leaving out the 'kit' aspect. Any tuner will make you a 'kit' if you need it. I know it is easier to speak about a GTxxx, and easier to market, and more comforting to buy... look past that to the underlying technology...I'm just sayin'...
On exhausts... I won't support the removal of CATs... given the size turbos you are contemplating there isn't much to be gained.
Almost any exhaust will work, there isn't anything special about those size turbos. Any 70mm system with 100cell cats will set up up fine for anything in your future. EP2, SpeedTech, UMW, etc.

If u have K24s - ye the common sense solution is to go with 18g and upgrade WGs....
get a used exhaust, diverter valves, BMC filter, a good tune... Protomotive or EPL... and ur done...
odnt spend ur mony one headers as they are useless at this point...
Later you can upgrade the clutch when you blow it...
thats it... pure and simple form someone that knows...
good luck,
markski
