External Wastegates on a factory style turbo??

I think my boost problem I have been having has something to do with my wastegates because it's really my last resort unless the turbos are blown up. They are not smoking or anything so that is always a good sign.

Has anyone done this conversion?

If so did you use stock manifolds?

I am looking at Tial 44mm wastegates. Is that what was used?

Is there any pictures of the setup that you can share?

Thanks,
Chris

you could use teh stock manifold but its very hard to do so , its cast so its a***** getting them welded and not sure how long the welds would last so it wouldnt be a good idea. you can always use vivids kit. you best bet.

if not you will have to get a set of headers and modify them with flanges . and you will have to have the car there, while fabbing them, as its a ***** for the 44mm tials to fit .

Chris,

You are experiencing what I was worried about. I am sorry to hear about it. I avoided the whole problem by just coughing up for the Vivid adapter kit. The cost hurt but I took the pain now rather than later. http://www.vividracing.com/catalog/a...5-p-45759.html

BTW, what are you going to do about the existing internal wastegates?

Stock turbos with external wastegates. Kit can be seen here - http://www.vividracing.com/catalog/a...5-p-47137.html

The kit is pictured with a set of K24/18G turbos we did.

Dan, do you run the wastegates open to the atmosphere or back into the exhaust?

As pictured straight down for that "scare the crap out of people affect" You can add on to that pipe to run back through the exhaust tip, but it will still be the same effect. When you run it back into the exhaust on say a Subaru STI, that is well before the muffler which resonates it. On the 996TT you can only get to the Tip for best case scenario. As it sits they perform awesome and sound great!

Call me up. Last day of the month special

It is the ATS triple I put in last year, Chris is thinking about having Akram put the same one in his but he wanted to test drive it first. Smooth as butter and no rattles!

I have the same clutch but mine rattles. Other than that, the clutch is very, very strong. I have the 11 pound flywheel.
