I wish we had a plain'ol dip stick to check the oil level. This computerized system is kind of a pain and I wonder how accurate it really is. Anyone else feel this way?

Not on a stock 996 Turbo--and I believe I read that the 997 won't have dipsticks either, but don't quote me on that.

Justin....that's my point. Whats the advantage of the electronic system?? It's slow and kind of a pain to use.

Harry, I am not aware of any advantage but its the way to check oil level in the TT, just make sure your engine is warmed up and the car is on level ground when you read it to get a accurate measurement.

How is it a pain? Just drive the car normally, and check it while you're sitting at a red light every now and then. It's a lot EASIER and cleaner than the "normal" way. And it's gotta be decently accurate otherwise Porsche wouldn't have designed it that way. If the system was inaccurate it could lead to all sorts of problems (both not enough oil and too much oil) which would lead to more warranty work and less profits for them.
