They took over 3 weeks to authorize mine as well.

I would think yours may total (its an 01 right?). My total threashold was 40k on a 03 x50.

You should not be paying for rental either. Mine was all billed to Farmers

Well apparently it depends who you ask. I've seen that if it exceeds 50% of the car's value they may total it, but I also saw some places say 75% and some say they don't total it unless the total cost of the claim exceeds the car's value minus salvage value. So I guess it depends.

I'm just growing increasingly frustrated because they don't appear to be doing anything and their communication skills leave a lot to be desired. In fact, I called my adjuster on friday from home and he didn't answer. I immediately called from my work phone (voip) and he picked right up... so I think he was dodging my call. That's not cool for an adjuster.

So 16 days and counting with no word on what's going to happen to my car and no idea how to speed this up. I'm afraid getting an attorney involved will just slow down the process even more.

That is TERRIBLE service to get from an insurance company...I had a call back in 30 minutes authorizing a rental and in one day the authorization to proceed to a high end collision repair facility for an estimate. In two days the repairs were authorized and I was given a new full sized Buick for a free rental for 30 days.

I don't know who you have as an insurer, but you're more or less stuck with them till this is over, then switch....do you have a Dept of Insurance within your state government? You might try calling them to see if there's anything that can be done, but you will polarize your relationship with the company....which sounds like it's already on the jagged edge.

it's not so much the insurance company as it is the adjustor working your claim. You have good ones and you have sluggs just like anywhere else. Call the insurance company and ask to speak to the manager. They have deadlines and requirements to meet on every case and they probably are not following them in your case...
