2nd gear pop-out can be a design issue...I don't think it is absolutely fixed with a new tranny. My opinion. That being said, the new unit has a 2 year warranty......so have fun. If it happens again...have the dealer do the machining with a d/w Porsche......

I disagree. Jones Autowerks will be able to install any performance/aftemartket products you may have for your car. They aren't tuners but they should easily be able to install an exhaust, turbos, etc.

no second gear issue with my car what-so-ever
if you decide on a short shifter kit and are worried about the 2nd gear pop-out issue, go with the OEM SSK and have a dealer install it so it is under warranty
get the TT!! how can you compare the M3 to a TT? lol
i beat on M3s all day with my car!

I've used Jones in the past, but not for aftermarket stuff. They seemed to frown on it when I last used them.

No, believe me I'm not comparing the M3 w/ the TT, I just hadn't realized that prices on the TT had become comparable. I definitely feel there is no comparison. The M3's a nice car, but nothing like a Porsche Turbo!

Honestly, I have a 335i and to me the difference between it and the M3 isn't big enough to warrant a $25-$30k price difference.

They are like that in the beginning but will warm up after a while. They used to install aftermarket parts on my 944 turbo without any issues. They do like to keep the cars stock though. Now back to the topic at hand.

one issue i had on one of my earlier 996TT was that it would grind synchros while shifting. they replaced the entire transmission for me under warranty.

I moved from my CPO'd 2001 TT with 27k miles to my brand new M3. However, I'm SO glad I owned the TT. I say get the TT, keep it for a year and THEN look at getting a used M3. I'm NOT looking forward to the 1st year hit, although TOTALLY free maintenance/oil changes for 4 years is a cool thing.

Good luck w/yer decision!!
