Vivid Racing 650 kit installed, but dyno results were below expectations

Okay, here is the scoope, I have a 2003 turbo andd has always filled up with 94 octane and the car has undergo Vivid Racing's AP 650 turbo kit and some other performance upgrades which are listed below.

I ran a dyno yesterday and was very dissapointed with the results. I don't have a dyno graph with me yet as the dyno shop's printer was broken and I am waiting for the graps to be scanned or email over to me. A dyno was done in June at the same location as I did yesterday, the first dyno reading in june was 368.9hp on wheels and was done on a dynodynamics. Yesterday, with the new set up, the reading was 399.8hp on wheels.

BEFORE
- Car already had this kit when I bought it a year ago.
- Speed Gallery 550 kit ( comes with a small hybrid k16 turbos )
- Gutted stock muffler
- Drop in air filter
- GIAC file ?? ( whatever that came with speed gallery )

NOW
- Vivid racing AP650 turbo kit, with Garette GT28RS turbos
- 5.0bar FPR
- Kit also come with Agency Power headers
- Kit also comes with Tials external waste gates
- Kit comes with Softronic flash file
- Greddy profec B boost controller
- Blown 6 Intercoolers
- Drop in Air filter
- Forge DV
- Speedtech exhaust from JOHN D.

As everyone here can imagine I am extremely dissapointed after spending more than $ 20,000 along with all these custom duties, labour to install and the cost kit it self and I am getting an incremental of 30 horses!!

One comment the tuner that did the dyno commented when he was looking at the graph from his screen and commented there might be a chance the car was not getting enough fuel and this could be related to the programming it self. But I did not temper the softronic file that I received from Vivid Racing, it was a strictly download and upload process for me to do.

I know the dyno grpahs and AFR graphs would be able to tell a lot more but I am so puzzled and cannot wait until receiving the graphs, so I had to ask if anyone can shed some ideas on why am I running so low in numbers?

Thanks very much for viewing.

you need two things fo us to help you.

1. Graph with A/F ratios
2. Boost numbers (preferably plotted on the dyno)

I'm pretty sure Dan will step in and help you have you contacted him?

yeah something deffinately is off !!!i know for a fact that that kit makes more power .. along with any upgrade/build you should always anticipate some sort of problem , trust me i know . so be patient im sure you will pin point the problem.

as ari said we need to so those things .go from there , you never know it may also be a s.w issue also , it happens.

You have all the right components to make a lot of power, why not add some injectors? You will find whats causing the problem by trial and error.

you have definately got big issues. If you stop and look at the first dyno with the old setup a 550 Speed Gallery setttup I would imagine to be atleast 425-445 to the wheels. What boost level are you seeing? No leaks? Sounds like your car had issues before the 650 kit.

I had no issues with the car before the vivid 650 kit was installed. Car was running strong, no issue whatsoever. The dyno was done on a 4 wheels and during the dyno the boost peaked at 1.25 bar. There is no leaks but the car was using a lot of oil and heavy smoke during start up. I have asked Dan @ Vivid Racing about the smoking issue, but there was no real solution to it.

In terms of the software flash settings, I don't think there is a way I can choose, stock mode, valet mode or flash mode but I will research more on this and hopefully it is that easy..

And the dyno was done at rocket rally, there are the only folks in town that is capable of doing 4 wheel dyno.

Sorry to hear of your problems. Hope you get it sorted out soon. BTW did they replace your fuel filter when they did the installation?

No the fuel filter was not replaced. Why do you think it is related or needs to replaced? Thanks.

As everyone says, you need the dyno sheet with the A/F plotted. Any boost leaks? Are you sure the right flash was in the car? Are you positive you were at 1.25 bar? Don't trust the dash gauge.

That would be very helpful. Do you have durmetric? Datalog rpm, Engine load, lambda set point 1, Actual Lambda 1, injection time and ignition angle. Do this in a single 3rd gear pull 2500-redline and post the results.

Hey Ken,

I have seen low numbers on that type dyno but something is still wrong.

How many miles on the car?
Last service?
What is the clutch status?
Have you tested for leaks or codes (you can have a code in the ecu with no CEL) Sometimes a car will spike 1.25 when the turbo's hit but not hold much boost.

Good luck. You will get it. It's almost always one of the abouve issues or even a combination. put some miles on it too and see if a code comes up.

Sam-

Dynodynamics are the "heart breakers" of dyno's. They often show 10%+ lower then a mustang. Its a fantastic dyno, just very conservative.
