Our ole friends PSM/ABS and drive to workshop :(

Hey all, I have a question to see if anyone has had the same symptoms.

I had the PSM/ABS lights before come on after a hard acceleration and the car died, sputtered, coughed, etc. that was a MAF sensor. Everything fine until yesterday. I launched hard...bounced off the rev once (oops) and shifted to second and it seemed like there was no grab at all on the clutch even seemed like I completely missed the gear but I was in fact in 2nd. I let off the gas and started to cruise again then the two lights came on with the shop warning. But the car runs fine...? I went to football practice disconnected the battery before and reconnected after. Started the car after a couple seconds lights came back did not touch the brakes. Drove home and was easy on the throttle but I was curious with the clutch issue earlier so I gave it a quick shot 1st and 2nd hard acceleration no noticeable seat of the pants difference than usual (with out the lights).

Anyone have anything like this before? I went ahead and ordered a durametric last night because I know everyone is going to say have the codes read, but I just want to know if anyone has had symptoms like this in the meantime.

Ry

No not yet, from what I understood I'd have to have my computer reflashed by EVO if I did the Hitachi MAF. So I dropped a replacement Bosch and let it go. I haven't really done any research since then regarding the Hitachi swap. What is involved? Sorry to be naive re: that subject.

Its a simple simple conversion to go to the hitachi setup since you already have an evo gt700.

Shoot Sharky a pm, and ask him about it....

Well I just purchased the car back in May and it was what it is today when I bought it so I wasn't involved in the build or tune of this car. And I did call EVO back in June when my first MAF went bad and they mentioned that I could have the swap done but i'd have to send my computer and have it re-flashed along with the Hitachi MAF. But that was several months ago and I opted against the upgrade at the time because there were a lot of people still having problems with the upgrade. So I decided to replace with a Bosch and wait to see if the Hitachi route developed more. EVO was excellent in sending me the upgraded v-flow coupler. But I told Mike I'd hold off on the Hitachi for a bit.

Now it being several months later I was just trying to research what the progress had been. Actually I'm still not sure this is an MAF problem that I'm having. I was really trying to find out if anyone has had a MAF go bad and still have the car drive normal. Because as far as my car is concerned it runs like a champ still it just has the lights and warnings. Plus it was weird that second gear seemed like the clutch just completely didn't grab. But, it ran fine on the way back home even under hard acceleration, just has the lights.

I had PASM come on and car still drove fine. I think there is a difference here. if car goes limp MAF or hoses or whatever need checked. in my case the car drove fine but the PSM was off and no antilock.
turned out the code was for the front wheel speed sensor. replaced times two and still same thing.
that leaves first the wiring harness to that wheel which we changed and now all fine for everyones info.
if that would not have worked we would have had to go after the ABS control unit ($3000). luckly so far wheel speed sensor and harness did the trick. off to the track this weekend so will see.

on an aside, pretty different to drive at the track with no ABS, really need to adjust your driving style.

Many times you can have a bad enough MAF for the lights to come on and still have pretty good power. Try disconnecting it and see if you get any change. If not it's most likely a good guess it's bad. If the car runs diff. with the MAF off then it's something else. Then you can decide to just go hitachi anyway but you'll know what it was.

Do you have a way to check the codes?

I had the same problem with my GT700. Like Tome Kerr, my speed sensor harness was shredded. I replaced it, and also overnight my ECU for the Hitachi Maf upgrade. My car now run smoother and stronger than before. Highly recommend Maf upgrade.
