K 40 Diffuser

I know, another radar thread, but I need an answer.
Yesterday, on the way home, I get hit with laser and the trooper starts for his car as I go by. I pulled over and wait. The short version is that he didn't give me a ticket, just a warning. I have the V1 that went off too late and I have the K-40 with the diffuser. He said I didn't have to take it off the car but the next time he hit me with the laser and didn't get a reading, he would ticket me for speeding. The question is whether the diffuser is legal or not and does it just diddle with the laser for an instant or totally screw up the signal?
There was no time to turn the thing off before I got past him and from what he said, he didn't get a reading at all. The V1 saves me from radar frequently and I don't see the laser that often but I'm sure I'll see the trooper with it again.

I believe that the K40 is a "passive trans-receiver" which in many states is legal, but again check their website and local laws. V1 is great but it pretty much tells you "you're getting pulled over/mash the throttle" when it comes to laser.

Thanks Adam, I got the feeling it was legal or he would have given me a ticket for it. He didn't have a problem with the V1 but he said "the laser jammer wasn't fair". I couldn't really get any good info from the K40 site. Anyway, it's good to know it works.

Can you use the diffuser by itself or does it need to be used in conjunction with a K40 system?

There is another kind of related thread.
https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...t-there-4.html

I asked a question there that never got answered. Maybe this helps.

So in California, a laser jammer is a misdemeanor if you have 4 or more units. If you just have 2 units up front then it is only an infraction. Is there anyone who knows the law and punishment who can tell me what the penalty would be if one were to get pulled over for having a laser jammer on their car?

Jamming: Electronic Speed-Measuring Devices

28150. (a) No vehicle shall be equipped with any device that is designed for, or is capable of, jamming, scrambling, neutralizing, disabling, or otherwise interfering with radar, laser, or any other electronic device used by a law enforcement agency to measure the speed of moving objects.
(b) No person shall use, buy, possess, manufacture, sell, or otherwise distribute any device that is designed for jamming, scrambling, neutralizing, disabling, or otherwise interfering with radar, laser, or any other electronic device used by a law enforcement agency to measure the speed of moving objects.

(c) Except as provided in subdivision (d), a violation of subdivision (a) or (b) is an infraction.

(d) When a person possesses four or more devices in violation of subdivision (b), the person is guilty of a misdemeanor.

(e) Notwithstanding any other provision of law, a person who has a valid federal license for operating the devices described in this section may transport one or more of those devices if the license is carried in the vehicle transporting the device at all times when the device is being transported.

Added Sec. 1, Ch. 493, Stats. 1998. Effective January 1, 1999.

The K40 diffusor is NOT a laser jammer. I have it in my Turbo and I go I tested it with a laser gun and a reading does come up even though the K40 goes nuts. I believe it simply helps pick up the signal early even if the cop is not locked in on you. A jammer is a different device.

After I stopped, he walked up and told me I had a laser jammer. I said I didn't know anything about one. It was actually on the car when I bought it. He walked around to the front and looked inside the center opening and saw the dang thing. My radar sensing unit was loose (crappy mounting) and I took it off some time ago. I didn't think any of it was working, obviously wrong.
I was right on top of him when he hit me so maybe there wasn't enough time for his machine to calm down and get a reading.
