Not Charging Light Came On This Morning

MY NOT CHARGING LIGHT CAME ON THIS MORNING AFTER AN ACCELLERATION RUN UP TO REDLINE.

I STARTED TO DRIVE BACK TO MY HOME AND YOU COULD SEE THE VOLT METER SLOWLY GOING DOWN TO 10 VOLTS WHERE THE MOTOR JUST SHUT OFF AFTER GETTING SOME ABS AND PASM WARNINGS.

MY FIRST GUESS IS THAT A ALTERNATOR BELT CAME OFF.

WHATS THE BEST WAY TO GET TO THE BELT?

ANYONE HAVE ANY SIMALAR ISSUES?

THIS TT ONLY HAS 24K MILES, BATTERY IS NEW.

did you lose power steering and the car overheat as well? the best way to get to the belt is open the rear lid and remove the airbox, but if the belt came off, there would be some other signs that it did indeed come off, but hell you can still see the belt if it was on or not just by looking..... either in the engine compartment or from beneath the car.

Just Started Doing Some Checks This Afternoon.

Belt Is On And Ok And Looks Fine With Car Running.

I Will Proceed With Some Ac Output Tests.

Previous Ownerhad Just Installed An 800 Watt Stereo Which I Fear Is Putting A Tremendous Strain On The Alternator.

Plus There Are Times When Weeks Goes By And I Find A Low Battery When I Try To Start. Possible Current Draw From Stereo Installation.

Battery Is New.

AIRjordan23 is infamous around these parts
my alternator gave out at 30k miles...
i noticed the volt guage drop from the usual 13.5ish to under 10. once it goes below 12 you get alot of errors (psm, abs, airbags etc).

i had it covered under cpo.. dealer charges 1k for it..roughly...

Also...you can have a big current draw..however sounds like its the alternator thats your issue..

now i'm wondering if the high watt stereo is also putting too large of a load on the stock alt.

Does anyone know of a higher output alt that will fit these cars?

or maybe i need to yank the stereo.

my alt went out at 65K miles on my 03. It was CPO so dont know the cost. It did the same as you said. Volts dropped then finally shut off.

I had a ~800 watt system in my car.

I paid ~ $300 for an alternator from http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/

I did the swap myself; took about 3-4 hours.

There's a very useful DIY floating around...
