996 Turbo vs. Turbo S

Hi guys,
I am in the market for a used 996TT and been doing some reading and such. Given that I plan to upgrade the power plant on her. Do you see a reason for not getting a Turbo that has the PCCB options?

In other words, minus the turbo and the boost, is there any other differences?

Thanks in advance.

For me the only reason to go with an S is for the PCCB. If your going to mod it you wont be using the K24's and the IC are more or less the same as the non S TT.There are some really good deals out there on early model TT's. Nothing wrong with the S, I guess it depends on if you can justify the cost difference for what you want.

Guys,
Thanks for the great feedback. I was aware of the changes mentioned, such as updated turbo, intercooler and PCCBs. But here is the deal, and you can grill me if you want. I found 05 coupe with PCCB and all the sport package option in addition to Aero kit from Porsche (makes is it look like a GT2 with fix wing).

Then, a friend turn me to this converitble 05 turbo S with all the goods. We live in Southern Cal and a vert would be cool (We own a vert M3)...

So I am torn here, both have the same color (metalic silver) and black interior. the vert is a couple grand more expensive (high 70s), where the other is mid 70s.

SO HELP PLEASE.

turbo s

I like the looks of a coupe much better, the aero kit really is a plus. but if you like the cab go for it. both are turbo s?

Don't forget that the GT2 is totally different animal, suspension, brakes, weight.

If you are not planning to increase HP on your car, then go with the S, but if you are going to go the way 99% of the people on this forum go, which is build a fast car, why spend the extra? You will be getting better turbos and better IC's as well as JIC suspension, etc. So why spend more initially. Also don't believe the GT2 IC story. I have heard from many very knowledgeable people that the GT2's are not worth upgrading too anyway.

Don't waste your money, unless they are both the same price or within a few thousand, go with the cheaper car and put the money in useable upgrades.

imo doesnt sound like he's much into mods. not only that but the k24 are good for 600 hp and will save money on the hybrids. imo the x50 is best.

I say go with the coupe, but then again, I'm not a big fan of cab's.

The aerokit is a great option and not many cars have it, not to mention it looks great.

If you're going to mod the car, there are pros/cons to buying the S. The PCCB's are a nice option, and the k24's are great if you're going to upgrade to k24/18g's. The IC's don't really matter much either way.

If it were me, I'd get the coupe. Plus, you already have a cab.

Just my $0.02...

I think the coupe looks better, but if you want a vert for the socal weather I dont blame you. Im going to disagree with some of the guys on here, im not a fan of the aerokit styling. Go with the turbo S if you can, I dont think you'll regret it!

I just did a search on std versus S models, the std markup for the S over the std on a 2003 is about 11-15k with similar mileage so say 13k average.

so std 420 hp + 610hp kit(headers,exhaust,ECU, bigger turbos) (11k) + stge3 clutch (2K) = the same price as an unmodified S

like I said, if you are looking to stay stock, go with the S, if you are looking to mod like most in here, you will be replacing most everything on the car anyway, so go with the better deal.
