Christian has a set of UMWs turbos for sale cheap, as he went another route. Kevin Owns UMW and is a great guy with tons of knowledge. You can get Kevin's turbos Used (very little use) from christian, and then contact Kevin for the rest of the package, saving yourself a chunk of change... it's similar to the setup I'm running and I've yet to run into another car on the road that could keep up with me...There are a few on this board that could, I'm sure, but fortunately we're never on the same roads!

Of course, this doesn't include software, wastegate actuators, clutch and 5 bar fpr, but you'll need those no matter what turbo you go with.
Where can you get it converted for around $800 and by whom? Thanks

Blouch Turbo. Tony at EPL (and a few other well known tuners on here) sources his hybrids from them. If you buy a kit from EPL, he generally passes on their price with no markup. The $800 or so (haven't priced them recently) is assuming just a compressor wheel upgrade with no extras (no rebuilding, no wastegate actuator upgrade, no clipped turbine wheel, no housing coatings, nothing). Your price will vary based on whether your turbos are old enough to require a rebuilding and what extras you want. I spent $1200 on having my hybrids made with the extras I wanted.

Thanks. I have called Blouch three times and emailed them once and they have yet to respond. Maybe b/c it was SEMA week...who knows.

How do you like your K16 hybrids? I was set on getting K24/18s but I don't think I'd use all that power. Care to share your impressions? Also, what kind of upgrades did you do on your K16s?

Edwin

Search for posts under my name. My experience with them has been well documented. I'm very happy with my setup. Doing a 16g wheel was actually Mike at Blouch's idea (he recommended it over several other compressor wheel options I was considering: Super 60, K24, 997TT, etc.)
They generally focus more on the commercial side, so you may have an easier time going through a tuner who either has a direct line or has some of their hybrids stocked on their shelf.

My mods are in my sig line.

checkin out your sig...
I haven't heard much about the k16/16g's how do you like them? compared to other hybrids from the same supplier?. Has anyone dynoed them?

Also, what do you think of those exhaust inserts? i've seen them listed but do not know if they are worth it as most of those type of products don't normally work?

Here's the thread on my results including dyno data. Note this was before I added the exhaust. With exhaust, it ended up around 500awhp, 550awtq (I think that chart is on here somewhere also, but I can't find it right now)
https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...ning-long.html

Here's the thread on the reducer rings:
https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...er-option.html
It made a noticable sound difference. I think they're only compatible with the DGI exhaust though.

I'm in a "somewhat" similar dilemma at the moment. I have only talked to a few tuners, and I have to throw my recommendation behind Kevin at UMW. He seems to know more about 996 turbochargers and every little intimate detail about them than anyone.

It is certain that no matter what you go with you MUST retune you ECU. From my knowledge, Kevin has a great method for doing this using a datalogger to help fine-tune your file. Upgrading your turbos without adjusting your tune is a waste of money in my opinion.

Don't kid yourself, you WILL use all of that power and be desiring more soon. I think the Proto k24/18 setup is the best bolt on kit available and you don't have to drive cross country to get it setup! You should take a spin in Paulie's beast!

I'll give you 2 guesses who makes Proto's 24/18gs.
