Thumbs up Today is THE DAY!!!

Well guys, I woke up this morning and couldnt sleep at about 6 am. It was frustrating because it is my day off, and I hate not being able to sleep in. I think my body is on automatic wakup... well anyway I couldnt think of anything better to do, so I called Speed Gallery and am just leaving my house now to install Zero Tolerance turbos. By the end of the day, my whip is going to be making 640HP. I will post some pics later!!

Yeah Matt, get it right... Zero Tolerance is what you have AFTER the Zero Clearance...

Sorry for the lame question, but can someone give us a quick overview of what the zero clearance turbo does from a technical perspective? What are the pros and cons?

Much appreciated.

How can there be zero clearance? Wouldn't the impellers seize?

couldnt give you an exact technical response to this myself, but no... they work fine. Dan has them on his car, Craig has them on his car too.... I just took a ride in one and HOLY **** MOTHER F--KING HELL that car is faster than anything should be on the street!!!!!!! Under full boost, you CANNOT touch the dashboard... I tried several times. The feeling of that kind of acceleration cannot be described w/o experiencing it first hand. Absolutely unbelieveable. Dan's setup that they are installing at Speed Gallery is soooo smooth, yet incredibly powerful. The car feels completely stock driving normal... normal idle, normal sound, etc. As soon as you hit full boost, it feels like the same feeling as jumping off a bridge into the water... a whoosing rush of relentless torque and acceleration, this car would smoke a Hayabusa - 700+ bhp w. his intake system, zero CLEARANCE turbos, water injection, and GT2 intercoolers!!! This car is STUPID FAST.

On a sad note, I am opting to go with the hybrid turbos instead of the zero clearance (my car is going to make 600 bhp today), simply because my car is a daily driver, I drive almost 80-100 miles per day and cannot deal with putting 100 octane in the car all the time. Dan says that w/o it, under full boost my engine will detonate for sure with 91 oct. Sorry guys, when I get my 2005 M5 I will put the big setup on my 996TT since I will have another car. I just cant justify spending $1000 per month on gas!

Matt,

Good to see you this morning at Speed Gallery. Your car is looking great (even with the C4S chin ).

I assume the test drive you described was in my car (its no problem), as Dan is still breaking in his ZC turbos.

I don't understand why you can't use the ZC turbos with 91 octane. Dan has different programs for 100 and 91 octane. I personally use the 100 octane program. However, the 91 octane program shouldn't detonate under full boosts.

That being said, you will love Dan's hybrid turbos. I used them for a year and a half and they were awesome. They spool very quickly and push a lot of air.

Are you still getting the Aquamist injection system?

Are you picking up your car this afternoon? If so, I probably see you when I pick up my car with the new AEM air/fuel gauge.

Craig

yes, I am still here Craig bull****ting with the SG crew about cars. Mine should be done in a few hours... I am going to do the water inj. system another day, probably when I go to Vegas for the weekend so I dont have to be w/o my whip for a day or two. I am putting Dan's intake, the 16-24 turbos, GT2 ICs, and switching to GIAC programming. Dan says it will make 600bhp exactly.

If you are switching to the GIAC program (much better than your current program), ask for the exact program that I used with the hybrid turbos. It is a custom, more agressive variation of the standard GIAC program for those turbos developed by GIAC for Matt M.'s car -- it makes more power than the standard program for those turbos.

You aren't putting on Dan's intake today, are you?

If you do a search on "zero clearance", Imagine Auto covers in depth what Zero Clearance is and does, and the pros and cons of doing it. This issue has been covered a lot, so there's a wealth of info you can unlock with search
