My 996TT trade-in value
DOCCAO did great to get $48K. Quick & painless. 2003 996TT sold on EBay today for $43.5K. 2005 996 Turbo S sold for $54K on EBay today. 2005 996 Turbo S Cab topped out at $55K on EBay. People have been posting about 996TTs in the high $30's. That's the market, and it's only going to get worse when the snow starts falling, and the tax man comes a'calling. (wow, I alliterated!

That is laughable really...
I think I have a reputation as a 'low baller' on values, but I am confident that at $48k for a car with that mileage and history, daccao got screwed - and notably didn't mind. Case closed.
But do you seriously think either of those 'inmotive' cars are 'good buys' and accurately reflect anything more than a 'near salvage' sale? Lets see how soon the same cars are back on the block becuase a buyer inspected the car.
Just to clarify...the market is SOFT (econ is in the dumps). $45K was from the local Porsche dealership (where I got the car) which hasn't even sold a single car in the past eight days. Buyer's on forums are also lurking for the same lowball deals but usually without real money or approved financing. Just go to the marketplace and count how many cars actually sold within the last 30 days here and you'll see what I mean. So every owner here will eventually have to face the same dilemna one day - I chose to cut my losses now rather than later.
Anyways, Lexus offered $52K and $8K off msrp on a new LS460. Mercedes offered $48K and $32K discount on a S550. Do the math...I came out alright for only 6 hours of work and getting out of a car I no longer needed. Flipping cars every 6-8 months costs money, but its like any other addiction/disease if you can handle it right? So no sympathy asked, just describing my final hours with my 996TT (and on to the next project).
Besides, if I had money in the stock market I'd would've loss much more. Cheers!

Dealers asking $40k OVER trade in....
I live 10 minutes away, anyone needs a driveby

Although my guess is they try and find someone stupid with a year end bonus....

I agree! He probably would have gotten a pretty decent offer here. I'm in the market for 996GT3, but I would have considered an 04 Turbo! Hmm, now whats the name of that stealership again?
You cant really compare what someone gets for a trade to what they could have sold it for. OP obviously made up for the low trade in value with the smoking deal on the new S550. They could have easily gave him 10k more on his trade in value and only 22k off the new car (instead of 32k off), and everyone would have thought he got the greatest deal ever.

I agree no real value when you trade and buy another.
Its all how the numbers work.
No on is buying cars right now so if you have the means tooo buy and help the econ out.
You think you tt took a hit wait a year and see where that s550 goes!

Honestly if you posted your car up for sale at the price you got, I would've bought (and if not me, I 'm sure thth would've bought if it came out clean. I too had cash in hand and was ready to buy.
