My 996TT trade-in value
Well I've read numerous times on here where members drive prices down based on mods alone. I've seen others get insulted when listing their cars here.
Yea, I guess I'm saying he wouldn't have gottem much more. Everyone talks a good talk when a car is already sold, but as others here who've tried to sell their cars without success will confirm, it's a tough crowd!

Yeah, I'll give in and go with you M....but, I still think these cars represent amazing value and as such, mine is staying with me as long as reasonable.

Jeff, they do indeed. That said, none of us should give in and bend over so someone else can enjoy the ride...
I said it in other posts elsewhere... My car won't go for a penny less than $65K... And I'd lose $25K in parts investment alone at that price.

Like most things in life, trading in a car to a dealer when buying a car from them, is a compromise. Clearly, if you have time and capital (money), waiting and selling your car privately makes more economic sense. But with the trade-in, you get the liquidity of a quick transaction where the dealer buys your car subject to you buying their car. As well, you got the sales tax "credit" on the trade value so your total proceeds towards the new car is a little higher. Your trade value seems a little low but all things considered, not outrageous.
Wow, talk about getting raped on trade-in price. I privately sells cars for my extended family & some friends, and I typically make $5-$10K over what is offered on dealer trade-in.
You definitely left several $K on the table, but I understand if you had no choice and needed to immediately flip it to get your new car.

Just crazy to me. There are more than a few buyers here on this board looking right now. This would have gone easy - even if he added just 5K more on it - and could have moved it in my opinion for 10K more as well.
But what's done is done.
I was once told that - a good deal is when both parties are happy and walk away happy. It sounds like this is what happened. The dealer we know is smiling!
And well - if this was a big help to the seller and they got what they wanted in the end - then the deal was a good one for both.
Life - sure is fun isn't it!

Agreed, what's done is done but I am one of those buyers...I don't see how I could have passed the car up for say even $55K...I'd say posting here for a week to at least "feel" it out would have been worth it.

while i agree with all of the sentiment above (especially the poster talking about giving the community a shot), if the op values the time saved as worth more than the money foregone he made the right decision for him...it's just not what many of us would do. that being said he shouldn't complain about the dealer bid for the car as it's the dealer's job to buy as cheaply as possible.
