My 996TT trade-in value
My 996TT trade-in value
Just thought I'd share my experience today at the stealership....
Mine was a '04 996TT (full techart, Stg2 -GIAC flash, AWE exhaust, 6spd, Nav, 23K miles).....best I got was $48K (OUCH!)
The smart thing to do was to part the car out and sell it privately. But realistically this could take forever, and I just don't have time dealing with deadbeats and lowballers on my free time. These cars prices are falling like bricks (so I decided to cut my losses today).
Hope others have better luck!

Justify it how you want....
Don't complain about low trade in, the dealer makes $10k on people that don't want to, or are too lazy to sell their car.... and probably a buyer or two here is wondering why you didn't at least give it a few days "for sale". (As is private party sale, not even parting it out.)

not terribly surprising nowadays...however, you're not gonna get any sympathy here because you didn't even try to sell privately....probably could have gotten $55k-$56k all day for an 04TT...hope you are happy with the replacement though..which is a.....
not just AMG's, audi's vipers, vettes. You can get any of those for high 20's easily.

Sorry, but what exactly have you expected? Dealers are in the business of making money. Trading a car in, is a convenience that you pay for. As others have pointed out you could have easily gotten $10k more by selling this car privately, more if you took it back to stock and sold the parts.
(edit based on agreeing with Mikelly...and in the trade one gets some tax break...sort of on the sales tax...)
I did the math for my world and keeping the car is cheaper than any option involving a trade for any car I would even slightly want to drive. Wife fully agrees (a huge plus) and she wants me to keep the car and have fun. Gotta love that ..... she understands now that it is a keeper.
I cannot do stuff to blow it up, but aero and seat stuff is fair game. And boy are these cars fun (thank you board sponsors for the aftermarket we have...).

Adam, It's been my experience in the time Iv'e been here that "LOW BALL" is the word of the day when guys make offers. If I ever seriously decide to move my 996TT, it won't be on this site. No way, no how...
Don't blame the OP at all, although I'd have just hung onto it at that price.

We're not talking an asking of $70k with people low balling at 55k. We are talking a trade in of $48k for a tastefully modded 2004 with 23k miles.
I believe in karma- I feel a certain obligation to the community to let others join - and keep dealers from abusing buyers... I believe that people who have enjoyed the benefit of this community owe others a shot. Silly I know.
