Yes...Porsche does make an OEM SS....but why fight what has been almost 11 pages of discussions regarding how geat the 997 shifter is? It would seem that there are a LOT of people out there who have had other shifter kits in their cars and have only great things to say about the 997. It's less expensive, shifts smoother, and has a shorter throw. I've had the OEM, B and M, and now the 997...and this is the best so far.

Hear, hear. I've got 500 miles on my 997 shifter after removing my SS. The car is much more fun to drive now and shifts are w/o hesitation and smoother than ever before. I didn't realize how much concentration was I was dedicating to shifting w/ my old SS. Just for fun sometimes I shift w/ my hand completely open and using just the horizontal palm of my hand. This is great practice and proves how smooth the 997 shifter is. Never could do this w/ my SS.

Great thread and it reminded me that I bought a B&M 6+ months ago and never installed it. I will post it in the classifieds but $130 + $10 Shipping (USA only) if anyone is interested.

sorry for being unclear. I meant a 997 short shift kit for the 996. From what I gather, everyone on this thread is installing a standard 997 shift kit, but mentioning that they would like it to be a bit shorter. I was thinking that maybe an OEM 997 Short shift would be the ideal. Maybe im confused.

I think you're confused. What many on this thread are saying is that the standard 997 shifter is wonderful in the 996TT. I, for one, don't want the shifts it to be shorter because that would affect the smooth, intuitive feel.

Yep, im definitely confused. Do you have the PN for the shifter kit you have? Has anyone installed an OEM 997 SSK rather than just the standard 997 shift kit and have any feedback?

I would like to know the same. It would seem the 350 OEM 997 short kit is the best of both worlds. Smooth shifting with short throws and comes with an adjustment tool, correct? The shifter posted by Suncoast on the first page.

I went from the B&M short throw shifter to the 997 REGULAR shifter (not the 997 short throw) and I am VERY happy. It's a shorter throw than the stock 996, but a little longer than the B&M short throw, but WAY smoother. I am shifting faster and smoother with the 997 shifter.

hmmm, if you had gotten 997 shifter your 60-130 time would be much better instead you now have to deal with that awful notchiness

I'm thinking my 60-130 improvement is based solely on the shifter upgrade!!!!

Does anyone have a picture of the stock 996tt shifter? I think my car might already have the factory short shift kit (BM) installed. It has a billet aluminum base that is black in color and has a P sorta logo on it.
