Did that at my dealer and my indy. Didn't want to wait anymore.

Link works fine, but I think you have to be a paying member to access it. Anyway, here's the pic of the tool I'm referring to. Is this the same tool included w/ your shifter?

Ok, verdict is in...100 mile drive, love it!!!!
The 997 shifter is the way to go if you don't like the factory 996 shifter and the short throw shifters are too short. Silky smooth shifts like stock and just a bit shorter than a stock 996 shifter throw, but not quite as short as the B&M. This thing is a "bolt-in" and should take less than an hour if you have tools.

B&M shifter for sale!!!!

Hey ttboost, Just got my 997 shifter installed and immediately went upstairs to get on the 6 and report, and you BEAT me to it!!! I had the Schnell short shifter and it was reallly notchy, although shifts were short. Shifting aggressively from 2nd to 3rd took concentration and patience to make sure of full engagement.

I can't believe how smooth, quick and direct the 997 shifter is. Wow! What a difference. It really make shifting wonderful. Got mine for $50. Guys, check your dealer. They have them laying around from brand new 997's that had short shifters installed. Actually, better to talk to a tech and their the one's to get it from if you want it cheap.

Right... $50. I bet I could have gotten it for $25 since the tech had a box of them, all essentially brand new. I'm the reining champ for cost, especially since I installed it myself. How about it, can anyone get one for less than $50?

Unless someone breaks into that shop and finds that box of shifters...you are the reigning champ!!!

I installed my B&M shifter over 5 years ago...it's as close to "rifle bolt" as you can get with a cable shift system. It's not "notchy" at all once the car/transmission is warmed up.

If anyone has a B&M shifter that is "notchy", it's because the cables are not properly adjusted.

I've heard that before on another thread and checked mine. When I actually removed my shifter, I paid attention to cable position and the cables didn't move 1mm when I removed them from their perch....oh well. Alls well that ends well.

I spent quite awhile adjusting the cables after installing the B&M shifter...checking the engagement and "stop" position of each gear.

I also have the EVO ShiftLink...

Maybe the B&M doesn't/didn't come with an alignment tool like the 997 shifter? When I installed my 997 shifter the other day, I bolted the housing in (which hold the handle in place with a plastic "tool" (shown earlier in this thread), and the cables fall right into place as they are sprung front to rear and fall into a cetain position, all you have to do is hold them down and release the sring clips. Thankfully the new 997 shifter is "dummy proof", you really can't screw it up. Maybe whoever did my B&M, didn't do it right?

When I bought my B&M, it did not come with an alignment tool. I don't know how the unit is sold now.

I didn't install my B&M with the assumption that the factory had the cable adjustments as accurate as those required by the B&M, so I checked each gear and adjusted as required.

I personally think that many of the B&M shifting issues are the result of cables that aren't adjusted spot-on.

I wouldn't trade my B&M for any other unit...it's exactly what I want out of my shifter.

Taking everything apart went fast but I also spent about an hour only on adjusting and then a testdrive before putting everything back. My B&M is very smooth.
