another question to add to the SS topic =).. has anyone driven the porsche factory ssk back to back with the 997 oem shifter? how much shorter (%) are the throws on the porsche ssk? just tryng to justify whether the extra money (~$200) is worth it.

Maybe a stupid question here........but does the 997 OEM shifter still have the plastic shift linkage? If it does, and if you're going to place the 997 assembly into a 996, is it worth it to upgrade to the billet linkage?

Just installed the 997 Shift kit. Love it!!
Not nearly as long a throw as the stock 996TT shifter.
Longer than the stock 996TT Shifter with the B&M short throw kit
Not Notchy...Easier to go from second to first in traffic...
Easier shifting all together! Great mod for $160 Bucks..
My old 996TT shifter with the B&M kit and an evo link have been placed on ebay..

I got the 997 shifter from Sunset for $157....and I also had a B and M in the 996 C2...and between the two, I prefer the 997 shifter for what I PERCEIVE is a smoother shift pattern....note** personal opinion. I saw one measurement made with pictures and they showed the 997 was about 15-20% shorter throw than the OEM shifter. Take it for what it's worth...but for the price, it was a damn good investment for me....plus the fact it fit right in with the adapter which required absolutely no adjustments...direct replacement. So simple even a caveman could do it.

And that's an excellent place to mount that sucker!
I got my 997 shifter from Suncoast about 5 months ago, and I must confess that I was a bit put off at first with the longer throws... But I'm shifting so much more precise and so much quicker now in all gears without hesitation. The B&M unit I had was simply inferior to the OEM shifter and I'm now wondering how much better things will be when I swap in the GT2 Clutch Hydraulics!

Try this...should all be the same. I think once you get it apart, you'll figure it out...I think people say it takes an hour or 2...
Good Luck...
