Most Bang for Buck engine mods on stock 996TT

What is the most bang for buck engine mods on a stock 996TT?

-Exhaust---How much power?
-Intake---New filters or actual cone filters?
-Chip obiviously is good but anyone have dyno's?
-Intake manifold---I hear claims but dyno's?

Thanks guys as I'm looking to see what is the normal route for these cars.

Nick, good to see you posting...check out Sharkwerks (board sponsor and has a link to the right)...they have many documented 996tt builds on their site...the turbos are the most easily modified P-cars for big power...of course for really big power (new turbos, flash etc...) it can get expensive...I think Sharkey has done some cars with just exhaust and some tuning and has had very good results...he has also built some monsters...welcome to the 6...

Good info. This board has a lot of SPONSORS which is going to make the modding part hard...I sent you a message back by the way.

true there are a lot of sponsors but actually they are a great source of info as are the other members who have used various sponsors for their mods...just read a lot of the threads in this section and interact with other members who have been where you want to go...in todays market you have a good chance of picking up a modded 996tt that is just the way you want it and not have to overpay...take a look in the autos for sale section...

Unfortunately the sky is the limit. I have some numbers from my mods you can use as a guide. Again, all cars are different. I'll save you the time searching and just post my numbers and I did these in this order.

My baseline was 338hp, 372ftlbs (This is awhp on a mustang dyno)

mufflers added: 19hp , 18ftlbs (FVD sport exhaust with cats)

mufflers, DV's, and custom flash added:82hp, 123ftlbs

mufflers, DV's, 24/18G's and custom tune: 187hp, 217ftlbs

I still have all stock piping, stock airbox and stock airfilter and NO MAF issues. I do have injectors too, although I could've just done a 5bar FPR, but my engine was out anyway for a clutch.

You biggest issue will be finding a tuner/installer. My advice is read, read, read. See what people have and do your homework. Call tuners and talk to them AT LENGTH about what you want and your expectations.

Best bang for the buck in my opinion depends on how much you want to spend. To me the best bang for the buck is K24/18G turbo's with supporting mods.

Where are you located? I'm down "South" as well.

most cost effective is:
ECU tune + exhuast
(but you will be left wanting more...)

Do ECU+exhuast+turbos+fueling and you will have a world class performer.
You may also want to consider a set of coilovers+sway bars, first then power
second. It is amazing how well a soft, quiet, stock 996turbo does at the track with
a set of brake pads only!

Me too...Except get an ECU tune you can upgrade inexpensively, and used exhaust sold here on "The 6" or straight pipes. So, for $1300 you can get what most here spent $2500+$4000=$6K for a ECU/Exhaust.

I agree on the tune, but a compressor wheel upgrade to your stock turbo will yield way more power than an exhaust for the same or less $$$.

True. I think SGM ended up being in the right place at the right time with his tune and 16G upgrade.

Still, NO 60-130 times though. They needed to be reminded

Guilty as charged. Everytime I think of buying a P-box, I think of 10 other things I'd rather spend 400 bucks on. At least I ran a 1/4 mile though.
