Uh-oh...Just got pulled pretty good by a bone-stock 01 tt
I've driven a TT before and after flash and it didnt feel all that great to me, just a little more peppy, so with the wheels and his car being a strong one it's possbile. Also maybe you guys should switch cars and try, maybe he can shift a little faster than you............ That makes a big difference.

He loves the way his car looks with my wheels, so he is going to powdercoat his and try to convince me to trade. Maybe I should go for it.
To be frank with you you wheels cost you what? 1/2 car length? If you like the way they look then a half car length isnt much to sacrifice. Just add more power, or lose weight elsewhere in the car, though you'll need to lose twice as much weight to make up for unsprung weight, it's really not that hard.
Good Luck.
Good Luck.
i think iread twice that they raced in second(and only second)gear...This is not a race...find an empty road and race from rolling 2nd gear to fifth gear...if you are about 4 to 5 car lengths beyond you are ok...The races you do are only for 2-3 seconds needed for 2nd gear to redline...RACE ABOVE THAT...You should have 1,0bar boost on a flashed k16 to operate ok...
Is he jumping the start? Who called "GO"? On such a short race if he jumped the start you won't be able to catch him in 2 seconds, unless you got crazy HP. You two should switch cars and see if he can kick his own car ***.

Agree w/ others...street racing in just 2nd is just not happening...even the slightest jump on his part he won and vice versa..not much u can do for catching up in 2seconds...having said that if you just slightly tighten ur wastegates you will put buslengths on him...wont even be a race!
you know...those are some very valid points about the length of the race. You guys are probably spot on...I would say he got the jump each time (not by much though) but I honestly didn't think that would matter...guess it does. We only did second gear rolls because in the Phoenix area, there just aren't that many places to safely stretch the legs of these cars.
At the end of the day, I think I will keep my wheels. I don't really car if his car is faster (or if any car is faster, for that matter). I was more concerned that something was wrong with my car. When my maf comes I'll have changed the plugs, the oil, cleaned the air filter, replaced the maf, replaced the clutch, replaced the tires, and hopefully by tonight I'll have finisehd my home-made pressure tester to test for boost leaks. Also, probably going to pick up a durametric set up beause I plan to have this car for a while, and I'm sure at some point the mod bug will hit even worse than it already has and I'll be looking at k24's, etc.... Thanks again for all the info guys!

update...problem found
I believe I figured out the problem and thought I would revive this thread and update the board. I finally broke down and decided to take the car into my independent, and on the way there I threw a CEL! I was stoked to see the CEL, as it confirmed that my issues were most likely not simply my imagination.
Well, as it turned out I had a bad pre-cat 02 sensor. Not a big deal at all.
However, the day before I decided to take the car to the shop I noticed a drop of oil in the garage, and when I got under the car it looked to be leaking from the RMS area (which as you all know, really isn't a common area for the turbo cars to leak). So I had the shop check the leak as well, and the news wasn't good. The leak was coming from the oil tank breather area at the top front of the engine (which meant the engine had to come out to fix...ouch).
It turned out that there was an o-ring that was virtually cut in half in one spot, and seriously nicked in another. $6 dollar part. Below is a pic of the engine (sorry for the crappy phone pic quality). The red rag just above the flywheel is pluging the port to the engine where the o-ring leak occurred. The good thing is that while we were in there we freshened up a few of the seals and gaskets, and replaced a few cheap parts/hoses, etc... as a precautionary measure. We also replaced the fuel filter, tranny fluid, coolant, engine oil, polyrib belt, etc.... so I should be good to go for a while.
For what its worth, and I know this is a controversial topic, but we also changed the plugs back to the bosch plugs from the Densos I had installed a few months ago. My tech confirmed that the Denso's are great plugs, but probably weren't optimum for my giac flash (which assumes a certain type of plug). He confirmed with GIAC that although it may not actually cause drivability issues to run the iridium plugs, the safer bet would be to stay with the bosch plugs, so we changed them since access was so easy with the engine out.
The verdict: car feels stronger, and is much smoother (and easier to shift smoothly). My wallet is lighter, but I'm happy 'cause my car is sorted and feels just great.
When I factor in the cost of the repairs/upgrades I've performed since buying the car in mid-November, it no longer seems like the deal of the century (I paid 38.5), but I still think I did pretty well (even after buying new tires, fixing the leaking spoiler rams thanks to a great deal from a six-speeder, replacing the clutch, and then this repair). At least now I have a car that I have been assured is in tip-top shape, has NO issues, and is well-sorted mechanically and cosmetically.
Anyway, just thought I'd post this update and publicly thank those who helped me trouble shoot these issues (I know that I still need to ditch the heavy wheels, but they have really grown on me!).

glad you figured out what was wrong with the car.
Because 19inch wheels wouldn't make that much of a difference if anything at all compared to 18s.
A flashed car with 20s would still walk a stock car.

As indicated in my other post, my car got rear-ended pretty good, and it is still (1 1/2 months later), getting repaired. The only good thing is that my car will now be rock chip free (they will have to do a lot of paint blending to ensure a proper match), and I picked up a speedtech 60mm exhaust, speedtech x-50 tips, gt2 intercoolers, and an epl k16 flash. Can't wait to get the car back!
