Virginia City, NV., Hill Climb

Anyone entering the Virginia City Ferrrari Hill Climb? A little over five miles. Elevation 4,800' at start and 6,200' at the finish line. Twenty-four turns.

Where else are you going to have a chance to match up a 996tt or GT2 against an Enzo?

Watt,

It is on the 19, 20 and 21 of September. I believe practice is on Friday and Saturday. The event is on Sunday. Yes, my car will be participating. I won't be there myself until Sunday.

Watt,

There are about 100 websites. Go to search or browser and enter Virginia City Hill Climb.

i only found the earlier years, saw the map -- but it's like driving to my house in malibu!! we have 3000 vertical feet in about 5 miles with 30-40 turns... sounds like fun canyon slamming and perfect gt2 country: massive 2,3, some 4 brake brake brake.

i wish you'd mentioned it earlier chad, too tight to schedule; if i race that weekend it'll be on the 318, the silver state classic, in Ely. Roland and Hamman and 1o other porsches will be there.

now that you're racing i hope we can see you next year on the open road, it'd be fun to meet you besides on the phone!!! i plan on at least Battle Mtn [late July] and Elko [late august] races next year and probably the june and september races. but i think that'll be 2 cars from now! i got the itch building.

Enjoy! Be careful with the chicks begging rides up the hill! I have a feeling the man to chase drives a yellow car and his name is Steve!

yes one of those chicks died with her flash boy driver...

the man to chase: and his last name begins with a 'B'. i wonder if his car is yellow

Roland,

i wonder if we could ever close off las flores, rambla pacifico and scheuren and hillclimb right here from PCH to Top of the World where i met you and you gave me my trophy. we certainly should pick a course to start comparing times, and that's good one.

Top of the World Hillclimb.

Watt,

I am aware of who you are refering to. Very nice Ruf prepared car. The car was prepared specifically for this hill climb.

Oh man, the hill climb sounds like my kind of race!!!

Watt, good idea. I wish we could close off all the canyon roads around here for a race.

I have a feeling you and I would both do pretty well.

Does Jeff Zwart do Virginia City also? Didn't he win Pikes Peak a year or two ago in a GT2?

tyson,
what do you think about 2 timed runs

1] las flores from the first R hairpin after the school to TOW -- 5 miles, 50 corners, 2800 vertical climb
2] stunt at mulholland to TOW -- not sure but maybe 1500 vertical over 2.5 miles 25 corners?

stopping at las flores stop sign mandatory and no impact on others/pets [5-6 am ]

that would be highly amusing...

problem is, what happens if there happens to be a random car around that time and you are stuck behind him? Do you do the run over again?

I think starting at some point on Rambla near you may be fun too, since there is little traffic past your house towards piuma.

I often prefer to have two cars follow each other and swap positions after each run so that the guy in the rear can clock the time and the driver doesn't have to fiddle with the clock and they can critique each others' lines and car behavior, etc.

The real question is, how do you control the others/pets factor?

absolute discipline: accept it and just re-run. easy to compare times.

1 car by itself is lower profile and less impact.

my house to TOW could be 3rd run, probably only 2 miles? 1700 vertical, 20 corners?

i predict you would be your slowest on run 1, fastest on run 2, since 1 is the slowest average speed. i dont know las flores at the moment above Hume

One note about doing multiple runs, I think heat soak could be a factor depending on the ambient temperature at the time. Not the least because we are running Turbo engines.

Las flores above hume is where it really starts to get fun as long as there is no oncoming traffic.

Because if a person has to rerun a few times, his times may have been worse than had he not had impediments the first time.

Probably not too big of a deal way early in the morning. Call me if you want to do it sometime.
