cost of mod's and length of life
cost of mod's and length of life
I’m looking to purchase a 996 tt and want to use it as my DD yr round for as many years as possible with spending the least amount of $ each year. I would love to purchase an already modded car, but fear in the long run that will cost me more each year and it won’t last as long. So I’m putting this survey out for the board to get a sense from other. – Thanks, Justin
How many miles do you have on your car?
Majority of miles City/Highway/Country?
How old is your car?
What mod’s do you have?
Average cost per yr to maintain and fix repairs?

These cars are fairly bulletproof but maintanence is very expensive (Porsche tax plus rear engine design does make them harder to work on).
These cars are also extremely modable and very rewarding to mod. But again it is expensive and addictive although the price of mods has come done and the path has been beaten for you. My advice is to dd your Lexus (the perfect dd) and Audi and save the Porsche for fun.

appreciate the comments guys....the Audi is on lease and is over it's miles and has a few more month left...Lexus is my wifes dd (but supposed to be our family car when I get the porsche).
Given the current economic times I don't want to spend too much on car's. Otherwise I would buy an EVO as DD and Lotus Exige 240 as weekend car.

If your wife finds out about the mods...the life will be short.
29000 miles; country/city; 2004; mods listed below but only for last 5K miles or so, before stock; If I would stop buying stuff I want, it would be oil changes, 30K service and tires, tires don't last long at this Hp/torque and spirited driving. This is my DD, but I put miles on the wifes car too. I have a garage at work...so garage to garage. I drive in the snow...but worry about where I park.

Thank you everyone for your feedback.....hate to admit it but not the responses I was hoping for. I was really hoping to hear some folks who have 100+k miles. oh well....I have heard of a few folks with 150k+miles but wanted to see how many and difference in cost and length of stock vs mod.
Have to say you all have got me thinking a bit more. Kinda starting to wonder if I'm better with an s2000 and evo or evo and elise. I guess I could also manage a 996tt and civic or maybe I could find a cheap 4x4 pickup - Will have to figure out the best solution and sales strategy for this one to get past hearing it from the wife

996TT is a wonderful daily-usable super car that I think you enjoy FAR more than an EVO and/or S2K. Even slightly modded cars can and will bring you 100K+ miles of enjoyment. Find the right car, right owner, right maint. and you should be alright. I've been there done that with so many cars and I know a guy with a 700hp car that beats the crap out of it and it still drives flawlessly. It's a Porsche. It's made to be DRIVEN. Yes there are costs but you gotta pay to play. There is no substitute...

Agreed with everyone above, these cars should have no problem with mods/miles as long as the previous owner has taken care of it. Which shops did they choose to do the work, etc.
I'd look for one that has some mods you like so you can pay a % for the mods, but end up saving money. I just picked up a Techart GT700 and couldn't be happier. No way I'd be driving a stock one!

If I could drive my car where I didn't mind leaving it, I would have WAYYY more miles on it. The car is a good DD and modding to 500-600whp or so hardly has a negative impact on that, but as been said here, the only disadvantage is, if you wanna play, you gotta pay...When you need it, which isn't much, maintanance can be excessive $$$ if you can't spin a wrench.
