Problem with Ruf Exhaust

Problem with Ruf Exhaust
Hello:
For the second time now I have had this problem with the Ruf exhaust on my 03 TT X50.
The first time, a check engine light came on warning me about a faulty O2 sensor. I took the car in and had it checked out; there were no problems with the O2 sensors. So Ruf replaced the exhaust and the car was fine, no faults.
Ok so now its 2000-3000 miles later and the check engine light just came on again. My guess its the same fault code. So now I have to take the car in for another round of diagnostics.
Anybody else have this problem? And what to do? I figure the 100 cell cats have something to do with it. My options are, go with two hundred cell cats, get my money back, or try to fix the problem some other way.
Much appreciated.

CEL
Make sure it's the same fault code before making any decision. Check engine lights come on for numerous reasons. I haven't had the check engine light come on since doing my Ruf conversion and numerous people on this board have the Ruf exhaust without problems so hopefully your present problem is not exhaust related.

Hi Bruce:
I agree with you and hope its something else. I have an appointment next week to bring it in, so between then and now I was hoping to get some feedback from the various gurus around here.
Thanks.
Thanks.

I've had that happen to my car twice since installing the Ruf exhaust.
The first time I took it into the dealer, the technician told me what the fault code was, and he reset it.
The second time I tried something I read about on this forum, and the car reset itself.
Maybe someone can find the post? It had something to do with disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes, then putting the key in the ignition but not starting it right away, or something?
Sorry I can't remember.

I found the post. This is from Todd @ Evo. I did this and it turned off my check engine light.
"I am sure that it is something simple. Typically when the CEL comes on and the car is still running perfect it is a mal-adaptation of the ecu or another simple fix. The MAF could be bad, however if this is the case, there are usually drive-ability problems. I find that cars that do not get driven regularly have more issues than those that get driven daily. Can you have the car scanned to determine what the exact code is? If not, disconnect the battery for 10 minutes and reconnect it. Then synchronize the TB by turning the key to the on position (without starting it) and let it sit for 2-3 minutes with the drivers door open. This will reset the computer and reset the TB calibration. If the light is off after this procedure, then you had a "soft fault code" that should not come back after the car re learns during the adaptation process. If the code does come back, we need to find out what the code that is causing the CEL. Call me with any questions. Take care, Todd"
