Replace Nav/Radio in 996TT
OK, I'm new to my TT, but the radio/nav just sucks.
I'd like to replace it with something like a nice Pioneer with Nav, Bluetooth, iPod, etc.
What happens when I do this? What works? What doesn't?
Any links to useful information?

Everything will work just fine. I like the Pioneer and the Kenwood units. My old 996C2 had the Pioneer AVIC N1. Then in my 996TT I went to the Eclipse AVN-5500. My buddies 996TT had the Kenwood which he runs in like 5 of his cars for the Bluetooth and iPod functions. They work great. In my 997TT I have left it stock because of the steering wheel controls. But I agree, stock nav BLOWS.

I also went to an aftermarket headunit with NAV, very much like it. The factory amp and speakers are "ok" but can easily be upgraded.
Something to think about- In 2002, there was a point where Porsche went to a digital fiber optic system called "MOST", they have a subwoofer behind the seats. You may run into some issues with this. Mine is an '01 with an analog system.
Keep us updated.

My 2002 had copper, not most. I use and avic d3x with the stock BOSE speakers without issue. Sounds great.

I have an 02 with the bose subs behind the seat. not sure its is MOST thou.
I would like to change out my deck as well.
Are there any features that we will lose access to that you can only do with the factory deck?

so if I have the MOST system (does it have MOST if there are the BOSE subs behind seat) can I switch out the deck for something else?? Is there anything I am going to loose by switching out the deck?? Like for instance when the battery dies it asked me to put in my PCM ID code. if the stock deck wasn't in there how could you do that?
You're stuck. You can tell if it is MOST if you look at the back of the changer. If it has a thin orange cable, it is MOST.
www.nav-tv.com has an adapter coming out soon, but the adapter itself is around $700.

Back to the previous post. If it is a MOST system, you're in trouble. If it isn't you're OK. Have to look at the back of the changer in the trunk.
If MOST, my understanding is that your stereo shop will just like you more...

(you have to run copper probably and amps....so about double the cost.....at least what it was going to be for me about 1.5 years ago....still loving my avid d3x...xm, nav, traffic, bt, usb, ipod)
