Best performance mods without turbo upgrade
Best performance mods without turbo upgrade
Hi ... New to the community and Ive got to say that there is a ton of info out there.... very impressed. As a newbie Porsche owner (2005 996 Turbo S Cab) I am unsure what upgrades to do and in what order. I felt that a flash, intake, dv's and exhaust would be a good start... am I missing anything? Not really wanting to tackle the turbos yet but I do want to make performance upgrade choices that I can continue to build on over time. Thanks in advance Thomas
welcome...use the search option and you will find a lot to read. Exhaust, and flash are a good start...DVs preventive in nature...intake less universally accepted as necessary. Don't forget to upgrade your suspension as you up the power. I did mine exhaust first...about a year later flash and DVs...then pss10 suspension

I think you're on the right track.... If I was in your shoes, I'd skip the intake and put that $ towards suspension...
enjoy the car!!

remove the awd
do a chip + waste gates... (waste gates are MANDITORY)
do a GOOD exhaust
with all this power , the cars suspension will not be able to cope with it
you need to understand that its a proven fact that the 996tt stock suspension WAS designed for monster truck duties
get a good set of coilovers
also, tires are overlooked
upsize to the gt2 tire size
235 up front, 315 in the rear
also, its an option, but those "fear this" window decals might yield something

I was in the same boat- with the K24 turbos ("S" option or X50) I wanted to maximize power without replacing the turbos, but still have parts that would allow me to go further if I wanted.
I chose a Europipe2 exhaust, which will be good for almost any power I choose.
I chose UMW flash as I liked their approach and the fact that they could deliver a whole spectrum of turbo/tuning options for me in the future.
DVs done prophylactically
Wastegates on the K24s are a must..
There you go, an amazing package... add suspension work, GT2 size rubber and it is complete.
Visual upgrades as you want- weight reduction if needed.

Your list is pretty complete as far as power mods are concerned. You need to get a wastegate upgrade on any K24 or higher based package.
My K24 dyno chart is below. Stiffer wastegates keep the wastegate flap from being pushed open due to elevated exhaust pressure (over stock) and allow the computer to tightly control the boost. You will get much better throttle response, TQ and HP.
If you want to take it a step further, you can send in your turbos for an 18g upgrade ($1,000), add a 5 bar FPR and push the limits of pump gas (about 650 HP).

+1 Skip the intake and do the suspension.
I would start with an exhaust, flash and suspension. You'll get a nice boost in power and a suspension setup to use it all.
Let me know if I can help you with anything. We're running a special on the Race Precision exhaust for starters.

I posted my DIY comments in the thread over on TFS.... there are some details on syncing that are not clear in the instructions. Nothing really magical, it isn't a complex or delicate adjustment.
It really does change the car!

Skip the intake, as in for example the FVD air intake plenum, thats what i'm about to install, should i replace it with a suspension?
