Bigger Brakes and Suspension
Bigger Brakes and Suspension
Hello guys,
soon i'll be upgrading my car to 650HP, is it a must to go for bigger brakes, or will the stock brakes be just fine?
And regarding the suspension can the stock suspension be tweaked to handle the extra power or shall i go for a full new sport suspension?

you NEED a new suspension, unless you have the factory x71 suspension or whatever the code is
as far as brakes
you can get better pads and stainless steel lines and all should be well
i persoanlly have stoptech's on my car and they stop the same as standard brakes
i guess its more for self esteem than function

Nope...Coils will just make your car look better..the stock shocks with coils will operate very close and even on the bumpstops shortening their life...Get X73 Porsche Sport Suspension or get a PSS10 coilover with GT3 sway bars...When you adjust it,you will love it...
+1 on the X73, VERY well balanced suspension, also includes the stiffer motormounts as well.

the upgraded power will make the car "dive" and squat more under heavy acceleration and braking. again on a short run on the street or highway is the suspension upgrade a must. well not really.
and for street work a set of PSS10's and an install is very cost effective.
of course the above is only my 2 cents!
Having had a 650HP 996TT seen here I highly recommend doing the suspension first. The stock suspension is very loose and pitches and dives with that much power. It is very important to stop, but more important to stay in control. When you talk suspension, discuss with the guys here like JCPMemphis, Tom Kerr, Mikelly, etc. I personally run the JIC Cross and feel they are the best for this type of setup when matched with H&R sway bars. The PSS10 is a great coilover for the street, but maybe to soft for a car this aggressive.
When it comes to stopping, a street car you will be ok, on the track, you will boil your fluid and run out of brake with the excess speeds. The cheap route to go would to be just upgrading to steel braided brakelines for a stiffer pedal feel, add Motul Synthetic brake fluid, and maybe go with some Pagid Yellow RS19 or Orange pads. If you want to go one step up and use the stock wheels that I see in your avatar, you can upgrade to the 6piston GT3 calipe kit with the larger 350mm rotor. More clamping force and surface area. Taking that one step further would be adding the Brembo 2pc rotors are going with the full Brembo kit like I did on my 996TT.
