Got my 2004 996 TT about a month ago. Really considering doing some mods. The question is which ones...I definitely want more power with the most usable HP and TQ not like and on off switch (smooth throttle response), maintain if not improve handling...
My ideas are
-New exhaust: nice deep sound, no drone, definitely not to loud or poppy
-ECU upgrade
-New Intake system, Plenum or both
-Headers
-Suspension
Looking to gain 65-100hp 65-75tq?
Any suggestions for the where to start and the best manufactures?
It's my first day of school and I'm ready to learn.

Welcome.
I've been modding a bit and here are some that I've done with my priorities... everyone's are different.
GT2 Hydro Clutch Mod. Parts are about $1000. Best thing you can do to get good pedal feel and elimnate your periodic accumulator and slave replacements.
Coilovers. I bought PSS10's from the folks at Vivid. Dan's a hero.
Durametric software/cable. You'll want and need this.
Get yourself a Motive bleeder. only about 60 ish to your door.
GT3 Console Delete. It gives me more legroom and the cd console looks Fisher Price.
Shifter. I bought a B&M Track Shifter with the taller shaft. It is sweet to have the lever close to the wheel and not reaching for it.
Fabspeed Big Oval Tips. Purely cosmetic. I love the look and that's all that matters.
I'm currently on the fence about power adders. I've been this close a couple of times to push the button on 16/16G's, but too many other "priorities" at home. I'll probalby do a turbo upgrade and skip doing just a flash. From what you'll read here, you'll want more and why flash now, when you'll just be upgrading soon. I'd rather not hopscotch, but many others have been fulfilled with just the flashes.
Oh, then you'll need a clutch,
and lightweight flywheel,
The fun's just starting.

Since you want more power now the other mods can wait. ECU, exhaust, diverter valves for sure. Check out Evolution Motorsports (www.evoms.com) and vividracing. Both are on this board and can help you with anything you need. Todd at Protomotive is great as well.
I bought UMW ECU flash and have been very happy. Kevin is great to work with. If you do this you will probably want to upgrade your diverter valves. My Europipe Stage 2 Quiet exhaust deepened the exhaust tone with no drone and not much louder than stock, plus it uses 70mm piping and 100 cell cats for better flow. Suspension depends on how you will use the car. I went with PSS9's which are great for mixed use because they are adjustable. JIC's and KW are also good choices, or Motons and JRZ's for the track, but are much more expensive. Research your intake choices because some will set off CEL's. Plenum, I understand, is only useful for much higher HP cars so you may want to rethink that one. Same with headers I believe. Others will chime in with more info.

Welcome, we are also located in CT (I lived in Manchester for a few years).
Feel free to give me a call about ECU upgrades. We would love to help you out with a real dyno tune!
Hi nomadmai,
Congrats on the new car and welcome!
I see you are located in CT. You have a fantastic tuner in your back yard - Tony at EPL. We have some cars in your area running our exhaust with an EPL tune. Search for the recent results of Seal Greys car with this combination (just EPL tune/K16/16G turbos & SpeedTech exhaust). Although he had EPL's K16 turbos too - it will show you what can be accomplished right down the street from you.
Based on your post, I would recommend our 996TT 60mm quiet exhaust (same as Seal just installed) - it's as quiet an exhaust as you will find for the 996TT (aftermarket, that is)...if you have any questtions, please feel free to call or email - I will be happy to answer any questions you may have. Also, we have a 6speed member discount on this exhaust..$1,750.00 - We are located in NH, so we are close by, too. Good luck!
Best Regards,
John

Well, I found some pics from when I bought it and the Porsche crest ball shift ****...
I don't have pics on the car yet and it's up on the lift in storage. I'll have to get back to you on that...

So it's covered by the boot until the joint in the shaft and then it's bare metal up to the 8-ball. Dude, you need to get a skull shifter with light up eyes!!
