Question Turbo options or time to sell?

As a newbie I am not sure what the 18g upgrade to the K24's is in terms of physical changes to the turbo. But more importantly if an individual was considering an upgrade would it be possible to upgrade to the newer variable pitch turbos on the 997's that completely eliminate turbo lag? If so at what kind of cost? Is this a savvy approach or should a person just put their 996 up for sale and move on to the 997?

From what I understand, the 997 turbos do not completely eliminate the lag.....

anything can be done but at what cost? you will need to reroute plenty of things also add a 997 dme and harness. not worth it. your biggest bang would be a fvd chip.

Upgrades

Thanks for the knowledge ..... I guess the 18g with the ecu exhaust ,dvs , intake, supension and ssk are the best way to start. I spoke with a P tech at our local dealership and he was of the opinion that the 997 turbos were a vast upgrade over the 996 setup...... this is why I am asking . Thomas

UMW (Ultimate Motor Werks) is using the new 997TT wheel in turbo upgrades, give Kevin a call. Much cheaper than buying a 997TT....

Actually, he's using the new GT2 compressor wheel, which is much larger than the 997tt compressor wheel. And I can tell you that I boost from 2100 rpms. There is no lag at all. or at least it appears that way.

The 997tt is not that much of an improvement that I would give up a 996 for it. The 997tt is a great car for sure and the stock turbos are better than the stock 996 turbos, but with all the great hybrid turbos out there today, there really is no need to switch.

quite true for many reasons. This is the worst time to sell a car, since you would be giving it away. you'd be a fool to sell it unless you have no choice for monetary reasons.

Absolutely the worst time to sell. Absolutely the best time to build a really fast 996TT as people (like me) have pioneered the way already.

You would take a HUGE hit and incur HUGE transaction costs to get a 997.

Yes a 997TT w/ the GT3071 upgrade is a 10th of a second faster than the 996 w/ GT3076's but it is a 150K project.

For 25K you can do what I did.

Time to sell ... Not

Thanks for all the input guys ... for the record I was not considering selling. Market timing is poor to say the least and secondly I just got this car and just started on mods. I wanted to hear what the performance veterans had to say and how they have upgraded their machines...Sounds like I should speak with Kevin at motorwerks. Thanks again Thomas

The no-sales advice some of us expressed was in response to the title you gave to the thread.

New Title... Which Turbo

Your right... it was worded poorly. I felt it would prompt a number of responses as to what the knowledgeable veterans are doing to their machines. Thomas
