Need help troubleshooting the wastegates.
Need help troubleshooting the wastegates.
So, after getting a bunch od codes and a CEL light as seen here:
https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...cel-light.html
I got the car on the stands and had my buddy rev it and let off to see if the wastegates are operational and see if I can find any leaks on the headers.
Well, the headers look good, but I noticed that the wastegates have no movement whatsoever. I messed with them a little bit trying to manually move them and the passanger side is moving "ok" but the driver side was dead stuck. After about 30 minutes with wisegripps and WD40 I got it to move semi smoothly when pulling the rod manually.
The question is, at how high of an RPM should I see some movement on these? I had my buddy rev it up to about 3000rpm and let off and the accutators/rods/wastegates didn't move at all. I imagine that any time you let off there should be sufficient vacuum to create movement? am I right? I'm not sure where to start with the troubleshooting. What should I look for? Also, what do you guys use to keep the wastegates from getting rusty/stuck????

You are not building boost with the car on stands. Wastegates open to release exhaust gas when you are at max boost. You will not see wastegate actuation if the car is up on stands, even at redline.
?
No, if you're overboosting and you found a stuck actuator rod, that sounds right. A stuck wastegate actuator won't allow the wastegate to open, so your turbo can't bleed boost when it hits the ECU's "target" boost. You probably found the problem. I was just pointing out that your car can't build boost without engine load, so you won't see boost with it up on jack stands, and even if you did get a pound or two of boost, you certainly wouldn't get to .7 bar (enough to trigger the ECU to open the wastegates).
If I were you, I'd replace my wastegate actuators. Actually, if I were going to go through that much trouble, I'd pull the turbos, have them turned into hybrids and serviced at the same time, but that's just me.
By the way, the wastegate actuator rods are fragile things. Working them over with vise grips will likely hasten their demise.

Where in Chicago do you live?BTW, it's not the rod that is stuck, but sems like the WG itself was frozen in the turbo housing.
