Audiophiles: Should I bypass or not?

Hey guys,

I'm in the middle of changing out my HU/speakers in my 01 turbo (non-nav, non-most and non-bose). There is a m680 amp in the car though and I'm thinking if I should bypass the amp and run the 6 speakers (I'll be changing out the door woofers to speakers) off my Eclipse ANV6620. The amp says it is a 6x40 watt amp while the Eclipse is 50x4 max, 15x4 continous.

Should I bypass the amp or no? It's easier if I didn't but I want to do whatever gives me the best sound. Thoughts? Thanks everyone

Edwin

I'd try hooking it up first and see how it sounds w/ the factory amp.

If you do decide to delete the amp you're going to want to run better speaker wire from the HU to the amp location b/c the wires from the HU to the amp now are just thin signal wires whereas the output wires from the amp to the speakers are larger gauge speaker wires.

I'm not 100% on this but from the research I've done this was something I found...

Look up the current outputs, not all wattage is equal, the higher the current, the more "power" as a general rule. I also have the 6620 and was thinking of a old school A|D|S amp.

Thanks man. did you bypass the brake feature? If so, did you just ground that wire?

Here are the pics of my 6620 install, I had wanted the spacer to be at the bottom as pposed to the tp, but its actually easier to reach. You probably cant see it, but the ipod adapter is in the storage hole, it has also has Sirius, I think its under the seat.

Hope this helps

Thanks for taking the pics! Unit looks sweet. What kind of radio trim did you use? Also, what's your take on the Sirius traffic module? I'm thinking of getting it but I heard that Sirius may have a critical year this year and file for bankruptcy

I don't have the traffic module, just the Sirius receiver. I've been watching the XM/Sirius Ch11 with interest, I have the lifetime subscriptions on both units.

One of the cool things with sirius is you can listen on line as well. Some other things Ive been thinking about is getting an IR camera mounted in front, no idea what parts to use, just a brainstorm at this point. Yyou can also take a cd with images and select a background image.

DVD's will play in DTS and Dolby digital, music CD's sound pretty good, havent tried a movie yet. My only complaint is not being able to adjsut EQ while DVD playing.

Awesome... I'm seriously considering getting the traffic module. When you installed yours, how did you wire up your speakers? Did you bypass the factory amp and just run the speakers off the HU or did you utilize the stock amp or did you redo your whole system and ran everything off aftermarket amps?

I'm having a little trouble installing the HU. Did you connect the VSS (Vehicle Speed) wire? If so, which wire did you splice into it? I've also connected everything up but no sound. Any ideas?

Edwin
