Battery Preservation

Are there any Cons in removing the battery negative cable when the car is not in use for serveral days in the garage? Of course the hood would be partially open so I can re-connect the battery and the driver's side window will also be partially open so I can close the door.

Why bother. Get the Porsche model battery maintainer that plugs into the cigarette lighter. I leave it in most of the winter. No issues.

The only problem is that the DME will need to perform a learning and adaptation routine for the throttle adjustment unit.

Also consider that your clock and radio presets will be reset and you will need to re-enter the radio/NAV code for it to work. Battery tenders start at $50.

I hardwired a $19.99 Walmart unit into the battery terminals. My 2004 battery is still in the top shape!

i keep my negative disconnected after i drive the car. I drive the turbo once every few months which always discharges my poor lightweight odyssey battery. been through many batteries to-date thanks to deep discharging.

As others above have mentioned; ECM needs to relearn, throttle position adjustment, radio settings, etc. No biggie for me since I don't use the radio when I drive the p-car.

PS - if you end up doing this, don't lose that radio code!

I do the same thing, but usually not for the entire winter as I also plug it into other cars too. It is s low but effective charger.

Hey guys, a little bit of topic, but still battery related. I just received my 996, shipped from Miami to Curacao, they disconnected the battery from it. Had it shipped in a 20' container. They closed the hood, so i had to do that little thingy on the fuse box, connect a battery booster on it so I can pop the hood.

TunaRollZ you mentioned a code. What code is that? After I connected the battery back, the car started perfectly and now issues with the radio. Should I be concerned? Never had this code.
Thank you,

Ricardo

2003+ no need for the code, the radio is paired with the DME
