Number of 959s in the US

Currently there are approximately 60 959s in the US. This number includes the cars legally here under Show or Display, not necessarily those that have been EPA'd. This number also includes approximatley 12 cars here illegally, without papers as best as I can tell.
The 2,500 rule on S&D came about after scrapping the 500 mile rule and going with the standard mileage that the major insurers of collectors, Grundy and Haggarty, use. DOT-OVSC, can't find the tens of thousands of illegal cars entered into the US so it is doubtful that exceeding the 2,500 rule would ever be an issue.

Howver, if the car was sold, the new owner might have a problem getting DOT approval if the mileage exceeded the 2,500/yr rule.

Expanding

If you include the prototypes and race cars as well as the turbo crossovers, Karl Lugvinsen may be correct at 337 total. For road cars, I show only 292 as of the end of 1992.

crossovers

Turbo crossovers were 911/930 turbos which were used for early testing. I have a picture of one somewhere.

Do you know how many ICIs there are in the US? You should start a newsletter on this subject!

Why?

there are too many ICIs if there is one, IMHO. EPA should match the DOT and exempt the cars. But, that would mean one agency must communicate to another.
ICIs = 11
