Spoiler problem... part 2
Spoiler problem... part 2
Guys
my spoiler has been rising unevenly on one side.
I bled the side that was too high, until it leveled itself.
The wing has been operating properly both up and down for the past 2 days, but still gave me the warning.
THEN
I get into my car today and i noticed the wing is uneven... its higher on the left side (the same side i had a problem with before)
I opened the engine cover, and i noticed the passenger side hydrolic was leaking a little fluid (there was a buildup of fluid around the plastic area)
do you guys think its a seal ?

I just got a warning light also for my spoiler I see some fluid in the plastic cup on the drivers side is there any way to add fluid back into the system? can you just buy the rams or do you have to get the pump as well?
I have the same exact problem. The dealer told me the only fix is to replace the entire hydraulic cylinders and motor mechanism. Its about 1500 including labor. I found a used mechanism online for $300 and will be trying it on this week.
My only other option is to buy a Gt2 wing and decklid...but most of them are around 2k. I feel that's a bit too much.

Spoiler error here now also....she does not go up at all (auto or via dash switch).
Microswitches test out fine.
No sign of any leaks.
Pump sounds like it is trying.....but nothing, then the idiot light.
And.....on aftermarket fixed wings....sure wish there were more to choose from (other than just GT2 look).

I've had the same problem for a few months. At this point I'm tempted to get the GT2 harness to turn the light off. But the spoiler will then be down permanently. I haven't been over 130 in a long time so I don't know if even matters that the wing stays down. At least until I decide to change the decklid it may be a cheap solution.

If that's your goal.....GT2 harness should not be necessary......I believe if you cut & connect the grey & blk wire (top of ram) and then cut and isolate the blue & blk wires (bottom of ram), then warning will be gone.
That's basically the state of ther circut in the up position (both switches released....which means continuity on the top and no continuity on the bottom).

Gregg T is absolutely correct:
I did it to my car since I installed a GT2 wing about 1 month ago and no spoiler warning have appeared. I went through the mechanics of the stock spoiler and noticed this. It had worked as a charm. Free mod, no money to spend.
Steve:
I am afraid that there is no seal in the leaking spoiler ram to replace. Unfortunately, the ram basically consists of a steel cylinder with a heavy duty spring and a hole in the center that actuates a brass/copper shaft using hydraulic oil(AKA Pentosin). When pressure is applied inside the steel cylinder, the brass/copper shaft extends and pushes the spoiler upwards. The spring that I previously mentioned has the function of forcing the spoiler downwards. Hence, when there is no hydraulic pressure and/or there is a hydraulic oil leak; the spoiler side with the problem will tend to go downwards due to the spring force exerted. I understand that the best way would be to replace the rams.

can you just order the ram ? please pm me the price and dealer info.
Well there's an old discussion over on RennTech (that keeps going) and I believe Loren ballparked the MSRP of the pump at over $800....the rams at over $400. (each).
Suncoast is always a good place to start for prices.
On the parts page I am not seeing the rams listed seperately.

I had that problem a few months ago. Fortunately, my extended warranty covered all the labor and parts, but it was a pain. There's a newer style of hydraulic ram that you have to use (at least it was newer than my '01 996TT had). And when you replace it, you have to replaced all the hydraulic lines because they use one-time crimp style connections. So it's best to upgrade both your rams at this time, as the other is certain to fail soon. This way you'll only have to replace your lines once. Also, the sensor adjustment can be a pain, and the sensor may have to be replaced as well. I was getting the Failure Spoiler Control error light for a long time after everything was replaced and functioning fine. Took many return trips to the shop for minor tweaking.
