Electrical Gremlin?

A small but frustrating electrical gremlin popped up last week.
The LEFT turn indicator when activated is 'ticking' at double speed. The rear turn indicator light is flashing at the increased rate however the front not flashing at all?? Right turn functions are normal.
Have tried the obvious........replaced front left turn signal bulb and the flasher relay but not joy.
Also experiencing an intermittent 'break wear' warning on relatively fresh pads. Could these symptoms be related? Am I overlooking something painfully obvious?

All thoughts welcome.

Cheers,

J

Unless you're proficient with a voltmeter and can trace down circuitry , you're pretty much shooting in the dark. I don't think there's anything more aggravating than electrical gremlins. Sounds like your problem has multiple issues going on.

Did you try replacing the rear bulbs too? Rapid flashing is usually bulb or turn signal relay related, and you've done that...I'd at least try to put in fresh bulbs on that side and see if perhaps you might have one that is causing the problem....OR...reseat all the bulbs and clean the contacts with CRC electrical cleaner. Then there's always the Bourbon.....

Good call Chuck. Shall swap the rear indicator bulbs to rule that out. Even though the rears appear to be working I guess is possible that the left one is "on the brink"
Interestingly the Hazard Lights are flashing at a normal cadence?

Thank you for your interest.

Hey Chuck.....thanks again for your input today. Bent the terminals out a little bit on the headlight assembly which solved the indicator situation. Interestingly enough no longer getting the 'break pad wear' idiot light either??

Cheers,

So I guess this means that you don't need the Bourbon? It would seem to me that a celebration is in order. Glad you were able to trace it down, and you're good to go.

The brake pad wear and the ABS/PSM lights have been an issue before....they seem to come on after hard acceleration or running....not even associated with hard braking. This happened to me when I had the 99 996. I solved that problem when the car caught fire because of a dash hot spot behind the radio and buned up. There have been a number of threads on this subject and no solution for the gremlins except to turn off the engine, restart, and the lights go out. One of those divine mysteries I guess.

Well regardless of this small 'win' it was Friday so a little Wild Turkey Barrel Proof was well in order however at the end of the day I was actually down $1200. A little of the CRC I sprayed on the headlight assembly plug founds it way into the assembly by way of some nasty streaks. F&#%!!!!
