oil analysis for Royal purple engine oil
oil analysis for Royal purple engine oil
Our business acquired this machine to test a buncha elements for our work about a month ago. I decided to test my engine oil, to see where it stands. Its set up for CPS, so divide by 50 for PPM. Anyone know if they look good or bad? anyone local in the bay area. I would be glad to compare against diff oils.
Joe, you are located in the bay area right ? What oil are you using ? would you mind if you grab a sample for me form you car and i can do the test for you for free, at no cost.
Thank you.
Thank you.
do you need? And how many miles would we need on the oil to make it
an interesting test?
I'll pm you. But typicaly i change my oil every 3-5k miles. I don't need much oil, only about a small bottle that you have for eye care solution stuff. I got the oil sample from the oil filter. I can provide you with the the bottle if you can't get one.
TMK, there are certain additives you look for (like zinc) and contaminants/particulates. The best way to assess oil is to do repeated analysis from same car over time and look for deltas...
The higher the weight, the greater the viscosity (harder to flow). The hotter the oil the lower the viscosity. The lower the viscosity the better the oil will cool. Too thin, it may not lubricate properly. So there is no optimum for all users. The type of oil you use depends on driving style, environment, age, etc. Porsche recommends a range of viscosities (e.g., 0W40, 0W50, 5W50), but as I said...it depends. Always change filters and cut them open when you do an oil change as this is a great way to detect particulates...

If you don't mind i can also do a free oil test analysis to compare. We already bought the machine, it was quite pricey so mine as well use it. I can setup to look for certain diff elements- as many as i pleased. The diff oils/mileage i try the better so i can grasp an idea on which oil is best and i can post here and share it.

Great thread...Has anybody performed an oil analysis on a Mobil 1 0-40 oil?...this is what porsche reccomends (at least in europe)and I am using it many years in all my p cars without any problem...i think the key factor is intervals between oil changes...
