But how about a 'shoot-out' or meeting. Say, DECEMBER 1st, somewhere in CA. You big guns could duel it out while the rest of us watched and caught up.

People could drive up together from So. Cal, and down from No. Cal... Utah...etc.

Sounds good to me. Do a track day and drag strip day? Buttonwillow has a good track and Famoso Raceway for the straight line stuff. I might not be as big as some of the big guns but I'll bring my sawn-off ghetto possibly-soon2be10second gun

I say we all sign up for a Track Day at Laguna

Track Calendar

and

another

All I can say is that going fast in a straight line is fun but no where near getting a feel for true racing. I recall at last years Gumball at Pheonix raceway. All these drivers thought they would do well but all of them didn't know how to come into turn, brake at the right time, and spun out or missed the turns! Only the drivers who tracked before did well.

The only problem I see here are EGO's. At a track event, you can't bring your EGO. If someone is on your ***, let them go.

I am putting on a reply to get this thing ON TOP... I don't have time to organzie this but I do have time to help... So, who can help me? What events do we have to have? Could this be the infamous shootout which I think is never going to happen?

I'd vote for Buttonwillow. It's easy enough to get to from all points - San Diego, AZ, Nor Cal and any other Western state. As sharky alluded to, there's a drag strip near by. Also, there's a jillion configurations. So, perhaps we could run an unusual configuration so that no particular driver has an advantage (that might bias the results).

Lastly, I really would like to have a driver's shoot out as well, in some form of equally prepared car. With all this talk about who's car is best, the most important element is missing. Driving skill is far more important to going fast than anything else in the equation. So, let's find one car that we can all drive for say 10 laps, best time wins. I'm sure we could rent something from one of the race rental firms in the area. We could charge for admission, and then the excess proceeds could go to the charity of our choice.

This would be fine if it was all the same driver... Trouble is the best driver will win, whether a car has 300hp or 700hp.
