upgraded headers...
upgraded headers...
guys,
on a k24 car
what do upgraded headers actually do ?
for instance, the evo k16 headers on a k24 car ?
do they give you better spool up ? sound ? power ?
thanks

Hi Steve,
You are going to get varying responses to this and if you search you will find some people say stock ported headers are fine up to 600hp while others will say headers do not make power. I say ask EVO, Switzer, GMG and AWE for the info and proof. I found a used set of headers (evo K24) in the classifieds for $500 and scooped them up. I personally feel they did help with turbo lag/response and am happy I got them for such a good deal. Would I pay the ~$1500+ for them new? Probably not....
Funny thing is I was at a tuners shop a few years ago and spoke about Exhaust manifolds and they said their testing showed no power improvements over stock (non-ported) Now a few years later they are offering them for the 996TT... The same shop designed a set to work with their 997TT systems and I believe the same header can be used for both cars. So I wonder what has changed? Things that make you go HMmmmmmmmmm?

It all has to do with power level...Stock k16 car simply does not need headers...Stock k24 as well...But from k24/18g and over headers are starting to take place in order to gain hp and torque, especialy at low to mid rpm...When headers were installed to my car,i had to lower set gain to 75% from 80% to reach 1,4bar boost...This shows that the car could reach boost more easy...
What specs is your car?
Hmmm, wonder how headers stack up to a ported exhaust manifold on cars with say a k24/18 setup?

Do you know which ones it is: k16, k24, gt?
you could replace the gaskets, although they are re-useable.
The k16 headers were desgined for k16 turbos, although the tubing diameter is still larger than stock...
The gasket numbers are:
996.111.215.70 -this is gasket from headers to turbo.
996.111.107.71 -this is gasket from head to headers
