Wow, great post Stephen. Very informative and interesting. How many labor hours do you think you will have into the job by the time it is completely assembled (obviously, the photos are slowing you down)? Thanks for sharing and please keep us updated with the progress.

To tear down and spec everything you can expect well over 50 hours + to complete.

Thumbs up Very good of you to share sir!

The inside picture of the cams and followers finally allowed me to understand a little of how the vario-cam works!

How thick are the liners? Are they capable of over bore?
What are you using as Pre-lube in assembly?
Where does the upgraded oil pump come from and what will you gain by using it?
Have you done any other hot rod tricks?
----Porting
----Polishing
----Balancing
----Indexing
----Oil passage drilling

Great stuff and educational!

Stephen,
Your attention to detail is legionary. As a surgeon, I appreciate the effort you've gone through. You even named the pictures (in the background) succinctly and usefully. Thank you.

The liners can not be bored, however you can get over sized liners and pistons and machine the housing. They will fit.

The oil pump is Porsche MS stuff. I order directly from them. The advantage of the pump is under heavy cornering you eliminate the risk of foaming by having two pick ups. You always have a steady stream of oil being picked up.

I use redline pre-lube. Goodstuff.
