What is the overall effect of spacers on handling-- Both AWD and TWD? Better or worse overall? More/less understeer/oversteer?

Better overall. I can't think of anything negative about spacers other than you have to get longer lug bolts.

Spacers pretty much widen the track of your vehicle. You want the wheels as close to the edge of the body as possible to even slightly further out while adjusting with negative camber.

You can use caster pucks to then extend the wheelbase of your car by moving the front wheels forward and the back wheels towards the back. This is all positive rewards when it comes to handling because it allows the unsprung weight to better control the center of gravity under cornering forces.

Of course a wider wheel with the same weight instead of the spacer is better because you widen the track and the tire contact patch.

would you get more understeer if you widen the back more than the front?

I doubt it would be enough to really feel a difference. More of a balance change than a rear grip change that could affect handling that much.

With my 86 930, a five mm spacer in the front, dialed out a lot of the understeer. Not sure if this would be true on all 911s.

Yes, all the same. But I can't remember if they are 17mm or 19mm.

The pictures on the first page are totally wrong. You can run 15-17mm spacers all round. You need 15-21mm longer than standard wheel bolts. It's as easy as changing a tire. No rotors to take off. You can fit 21mm in the rear if you roll the fenders.

No rubbing, lowered or not.

You will definitely feel a 30-42mm increase in track (width). Car engineers kill for that.

Lots of info: http://www.livermoreperformance.com/...rs.html#hr_app

You want the DR series to get the bolts included, but you can use the DRS series if you buy bolts separately. MAKE sure the bolts are longer x spacer size. IE 15mm spacers need wheel bolts that are 15mm longer, etc..

One thing you must remember about using the larger spacers is they do put more strain on the wheel bearings than the stock set up. Keep this in mind down the road.

spacers are just6 as bad long term as aftermarket wheels with a more aggressive offset. i doubt there is any real issue.

most of us are running the engine/tranny @ 100+ hp and ft/lb of torque that's gotta suck for the wheel bearings

I agree, just something to keep in mind and allow for in the future.
