Whats the limit of the TIP?
Do you think that the rear wheel conversion could be a factor? Would that allow more force to the remaining drive components? Sorry to hear about the problem.
I don't think so.
Yeah...sorry to hear about the problem. Hopefully you will find a good solution and get it fixed soon. I read somewhere that you could swap the 997 TT internal parts. Have you looked at it? Let me see if I can find the thread for you.
would be great to hear from a tuner that knows about the tips to know what the real limits are.. its one reason I have not gone foward yet with my turbo upgrade project... dont need to open a can of worms.
As you can see I was getting my info from the (Black) Horses mouth, the Toddanator.
When Todd started his project there were 2 standard beliefes about the tip: One, they could not be that fast due to parasitic loss and 2; they would not last.
Todd proved the first to be false but unfortunately the second to be true. We need to find someone who is an expert on the tip who can possibly advise as how to make them reliable at high power levels.

If I remember correctly, it was a GT750. From what I heard, they drove that one pretty hard too.
Same reason for me. It would be nice if some tuners would comment on this. On Switzer's web site there is an L4 750 tip tronic package.. wonder has anyone heard if it's any good?
I called Tony@EPL and Ian@Evoms. They both said that they have had tips running well into the 700chp and not have had any issues. Ian stated that besides the minor differences the 996 tip is almost the same as the 997 tip. He told me that with an upgraded TC, cars are able to reliably run 800chp without transmission issues. He also stated that besides the tq converter the 996 tip has the same trans as the AMG XX65 cars that are capable of over 1000 lb/ft.

Cool ! nice to hear this but i doubt that the tip from the 996 is near the tip from 997, the new tip is very fast !

I'm not sure I would have more than 500whp if I had a Tip. I think at that level it would last quite a while. Any more than that and I think you will shorten the tranny life disproportionately. I think at the 500whp level you STILL need the upgraded TC.
It seems like the OP was told by Evoms that they have several high hp cars running fine with their TQ convertors ..what's up with EVOMS being so sure about tip's capability..
Also in the case of blackhorseturbo tranny failure maybe the issues could have been prevented if he had the TQ convertor before it started slipping under high hp?
