Are you disappointed with Porsche?
Are you disappointed with Porsche?
I am, from bad dealer service to uninspired new models, I must say, I am very disappointed in Porsche from Corporate head quarters to my local dealer. I love my car but doubt I will never buy another Porsche.

I might be the other side of the coin, I love the brand, the product and the dealer who has never disappointed me. As for the new products, I have test driven the 997S on the road and, yesterday, on the track. I have to admit that I was very impressed with it. I kept forgetting that I was driving a carrera as I beat the hell out of it. I was among the last group of three cars out so we had the track to ourselves. It started out with all three of us being aggressive and degenerated into an all-out race. The carrera S was amazing and, apart, from some understeer, never complained one bit. I was simply astounded with the diffrence between it and the outgoing 996 model. It's a superb car that's very well engineered. The highlight of the day wasn't even that, it was getting a ride in the CGT driven by a professional race car driver. It was an out of the world experience. I have never been in a better car with a better driver. I've seen the Enzo up close and personal, had a ride in the SLR being driven no less by Jean Alesi, DTM AMG and ex-F1 driver. Words fail to convey how superb the CGT is on the track.
I like a lot of things about Porsche in general, and I don't like things about them too;
Like:
*The 911 in general
*The build quality
*The engineering
*The performance
*The flat-6
*The rear engine
*My dealership
*My mechanic
*My service guy
*My Sales guy
Dislike:
*Some design features of the 997/997S (parts of the exterior, all of the interior, PASM, steering wheel, shifter, seats, did I say all of the interior?).
*Some design features of the 996 Turbo (suspension, shifter, exhaust, steering rack, rear wiper, seats, steering wheel thickness, rear view mirror)

This is my first Porsche, and I absolutely friggin love it. Its been a blast. I'm having such a hard time dealing with the wait for my turbo S that I may have to pick up a used tt just to tide me over (I know this is old hat to most of you guys, but it's new to me). I've been to two PDE's (basic and advanced) and had a fantastic time. My dealer has been great, both for sales and service. Something may come along to change my mind, but right now I'm a happy customer.
This is My seventh and I have loved them from when I was a child and went to the factory. Not to get teary eyed or anything it is about a love for the heritage and prestige of the cars. The 911 is still the most recogized car in the world. There is no substitute!
I guess I will weigh in that I think Porsche is a great car...it offers true supercar performance in the GT-2 for example...yet can realistically be a daily driver. However, it sure does seem as though they are not really keeping up with some of the advances that other manufacturers are bringing out: sequential shifting/high power motors/etc. Frankly the factory should be building the Ruf Rturbo.

I am very fortunate that I have an excellent dealer who wants to keep me happy and so far they have succeeded. I realize their limits and deal with them accordingly. My C2 Cab has been trouble free for 25K miles and so far my Cayenne S has been relatively trouble free for 18K miles. I hope my 05 TT "S" can live up to the history of my two existing Porsche vehicles.
My dislike is the rapid depreciation we all se on any Porsche vehicle. One would think that the relatively small production numbers would insulate the Porsche to some degree, however that is not the case. I am not foolish enough to buy cars with investment as a consideration, however when one takes a 35% (or more) hit in one year it does give pause for concern.

I love Porsches, from the old to the new.
Can't really compare a high-volume maker like Porsche with many models, to a more limited manufacturer like Ferrari or Lamborghini (which are also significantly more expensive and are more difficult than a Porsche as a daily driver for most people).
But compare to any other manufacturer and Porsche does very well.
As for uninspired new models, I disagree.
The fact that Porsche maintains a consistent look is the reason why old Porsches still look so damn good. I think Road and Track had a nice spread of 6 different model generations and they all looked "fresh" and hot.
Compare to MBZ SLs, the day the new model comes out the rest plummet in value and IMMEDIATELY look unbelievably dated. Same with most if not all other cars.
The 993, cars over 10 years old, still look awesome. I saw a 993 Turbo on the road today and was thinking damn, that looks so good, I want one.
Sorry but imho a 10yr old Diablo doesn't do that for me, mostly because the Murcielago looks so different, the Diablo looks dated IMHO. And I used to think the Diablo was the best looking car ever. I also used to love the 348 and 355 too ... all cars that look slightly "old" next to the 360. 430 seems to continue many of the 360 lines so the same may not happen again.
Thanfully the 997 isn't a radical change or our 996s will look like crap
Besides looks, overall performance and feel cannot be matched by any other manufacturer save Ferrari/Lambo. IMO there is no competition for a 100k 997.
I could go on and on but these are some of the best cars out there and I'm damn happy to be driving one

From a manufacturer's standpoint, porsche is still the greatest of engineers, styling and performance. Yoou can't fault them for doing what they can to help them stay ahead of the crowd. i'm trying to view the boxster and cayenne funding for R&D.. if that even makes sense.
I can't fault them, they're just the greatest.
Dealers on the other hand... no comment
