Should i turbocharge the Elise?

A shop has asked to use my Elise as a prototype car for a turbo kit. The plan is to run 4-5 pounds of boost on pump gas and make an extra 60hp or so. Then to have a race gas program that should up it to about +100hp. The preliminary parts list is as follows:

Garrett GT-28R Turbo
Spearco Air to Water Intercooler
Aluminum Intake and Intercooler Piping
Unichip with dual maps for pump and race gas
Walboro Fuel Pump
321 Stainless Steel Manifold
Braided Stainless Lines and Fittings
304 Stainless exhaust with cat deletes

I would have to be without the car for 9-16 weeks. There would be no cost to me whatsoever. At the end, Car and Driver is scheduled to do a big write-up on it.

Should i do it?

Do it...
but why not do an engine swap first?
there are some good engines out there that'll cost u like only few grand... and those engines are more easier to mod as well...

I'd modify a riding mower.

A turbo Elise ... sounds really interesting.

If it's a shop with a good reputation whom you trust, do it!

The only thing with a such a small displacement I'm not sure the GT28 is the way to go? It'll be pretty laggy

Sort of seems to me that with a light nimble car such as the Elise, supercharging would be better. Lower lag...

You would think that TRD already has something out for the Celica engine.

What is the displacement on the elise? I have a 28R on the car in my sig and there is little or no lag and that is on a 1.8 liter. I think you should go for it. If Car & Driver is going to get their hands on the car you would imagine they will do their best work. At least one would hope so.

I know one guy who has done the conversion and the car is like a real race car.(8400rpm)

He did also the Komo-tec conversion www.exige-r.com
