Question help with pricing 2002 996 TT with 46k miles

car = 2002 996 TT / Tip, aftermarket 19" wheels, aftermarket stereo.

I just left the dealer and they had the typical Kelly bluebook number at $49,000 I offered $32,000. They told me they had more in the car.

I could not figure out how to check the mileage on the car and the salesman told me it was 26,000. I increased my offer to $35k and they were at $41k. Before I left I told them I will pay $39.5k and call me if you are interested.

They called me back and we agreed at $39.8K.

I go on-line to show wifey and the mileage is almost 47,000. WELL that is a big difference from 26,000.

Any thoughts on the price ???

I am not sure this is the right car for our family, we are looing for a fun car that my wife can take the kids (5 & 3) to school and split the cars (she also has a Mercedes R350 and when that is up we will get a 2007 S550) and I can play with during the weekends. Maybe a BMW 650 cab would work better, but that is not the question.

Sounds a tad high for those miles even if all else checks out. When I was in the market a month ago I was seeing cars with 20,xxx miles at the $40k mark. You can probably talk them down another few grand i would think. Good luck!

Price at $40K sounds right to me. I respectfully disagree with the previous post...$40K for a 20K mile car is extremely cheap! But i'm a newbie and am just sharing my opinion.

Tips seem to be at a much bigger discount than manuals, you should be able to find a car with mileage in the 20's for $40k, there are a ton priced in the low 40's.

Price doesn't sound too bad maybe another 1-2k off would make it better. I got mine about 4 months ago before the economy really hit the crapper and paid 41k for my 01 bone stock care with 23k. I would think 37-38 is a good deal given the wheels etc. just make sure it comes out with a clean ppi, recent service etc.

It all depends on the way the car was taken care of.

My guess is 40k for a good car is a good deal. For a bad car....35k...(major work needed...).

I looked for the following when going for my 996TT:

Records.

Wear and abuse issues.

Mechanicals.

PPI for sure....

Etc.

For example, my car feels brand new. New suspension, pads, etc. Other cars are "old and wasted" feeling.....shocks, bushings, etc., may be shot. Paint, leather, mods (good mods for me are a good thing....but not to everyone...).

That's awesome. Just 3 months ago I felt like I got a good deal on a 2002 TT with 52k miles for 45k. I had a few goodies, such as an upgraded sway bar, a GIAC flash (1.1-1.3 bar), 18 months remaining on a bumper-to-bumper third party warranty (that's already come in handy for a couple radiators), some aftermarket wheels, and PSS9s.

Man, <$40k for a Turbo. I love it.

How could you not know the mileage? Did you drive it?

In any event, you MUST have a thorough PPI done by a QUALIFIED mechanic. You need records. If there is no proof the services were done (ie the 30k and 45k services) assume they were not done. These are not cheap.

Price sounds about right. But definitely get a thorough PPI done by an independent shop or a different dealer than is selling the vehicle. Good Luck!

i would be a little pissed that the salesman either lied or was too stupid to read the mileage

either way i would reduce my offer based on the actual mileage, 39.8k sounds ok though

Too many miles. In a year or two with some driving you will have a 50K or 60K mile car. NO Thanks!! I would find a lower mileage car. We all know there are plenty around.

The bigger question is why you couldn't see the display to verify the mileage... The odometer lights right up when you unlock the car, or put the key in.

You might want to do a carfax and then a PPi before you jump in...

Also, this is a fabulous platform to have as your "fun" car. It's the perfect size to tote smaller children with. I'd not blink at the mileage, even if it is in the 40s. Some guys flip out over miles on these cars, but letting them sit is worse than driving them. Porsche intended the car to be driven... It is N-O-T a Ferrari, so for gods sake, enjoy it as it was built to be used.

Mike

I don't understand how you could work out a deal and have no clue how many miles are on the car.
Also you made an offer they accepted. Close the deal. I hate it when people make deal then back out.
