Intercooler information ???

you guys with aftermarket IC's can you give me your impressions of each unit vs stock

Evoms, Awe, AP, proto, B6.?

Also how was installation? issues, no change in hoses? etc.

I am shocked at how much of a difference in power I see from a cold day to a warm day with the stock units.

I did do a search, but nothing came with impressions of performance as well as install and additional items needed.

thanks in advance.

have b6. cars seems to be losing less power to heat after a few track sessions.

install is a pain though, need quite a bit of modifications.

I have a Set of B6 coolers in them car. Selling them if your interested.
Install was simple not sure why others had a problem. fit in Factory location and with the stock hoses.
Let me know if your interested in them, I am upgrading my Turbos and need new coolers for the inlet and outlet so i don't want to chop these up.

You guys aren't joking! Here in Vegas it's been getting into the 100+ temp range and my poor GT2 has suffered. Major difference in power with my stock IC's. I'm going to post a "Prius kill in Vegas" thread if this keeps up.

I have EVOMS ICs as a replacement for stock units. They give me greater run to run consistency but no significant hp. Here is a 4th gear WOT pull at fairly high ambient. The IAT total rise is less in lower gears due to less time to make the pull. Unfortunately, I did not have a Durametric when I had stock ICs on for comparison.

I really wish there was some actual specs on these intercoolers. Certainly there are standardized tests to evaluate thermal efficiency, but my guess is nobody wants to measure or publicize them....

The AWE site has the best IC info (at least on their ICs), imo

yeah, but if you look at Awes dyno sheet you would think, why pay 1500 to 3000 to gain 5-10 hp throughout. It's probably a very accurate dyno comparison, but does it really show you what is going on, on a hot day. The difference in power should be considerably more on a hot day than on a colder day. Ecu is not pulling as much timing.

Where you see the biggest gains are unfortunately, not really measurable on a dyno. The 996/997 breed are designed to have 100+mph airflow into the sidevents added to the possible vacuum created at the rear vents. It's extremely difficult to simulate in a dyno room, short of having a wind tunnel.

That said, one run is not going to give you quantitative data. You need to run it on a roadcourse non-stop for 20 minutes, then make the comparisons to stock. The delta might be similar up to a certain temperature, but the larger area should ward off soak a bit better.

The intercoolers will not get you a gain in HP--more accurate to say better intercooling will let you keep the HP you already have. That may represent 100HP if it is hot enough. It is after everything gets hot that the intercoolers start to do there job.
A couple of more recent threads that have some good comments on named brands --here on 6 Spd---KPG comments on Evo vs B-6 --that has some real back to back that is really interesting. On Rennlist--997 TT thread( near enough identical i/c's and issues) TB's thread contains AWE details and some REAL testing --plus another thread on custom cores made up and the results( still very current) .
