I think the popular opinion is that any of the aftermarket billet DVs are more reliable than the stock Bosch units. Some say that Bailey's are better as they claim that no routine maintenence is needed. Some say Forge are better because they can come with different tension springs and can be taken apart for routine cleaning and lubing. Some people say that many of the major brands all come from the same place, and are just "rebadged" for different vendors. People have reported problems with almost all types of DVs, and some people will swear by a specific brand.
My recommendation is to go with whichever type your tuner recommends (most tuners recommend billet type DVs, but some may recommend "upgraded" Bosch units). I would definitely change the F-hose to the silicone type while doing the DVs, as you are already there, to avoid issues with leaks from the stock rubber F-hose.

DV issue
ok...thanks for ur reply. i read some thread on what u r talking about....
now, the factory bosch unit is NOT serviceable? where as forge and some are serviceable in that you can take it out and clean and regrease it, from what i see...
then,....does the factory one fail 'cause we don't clean /service it? on the billet ones, how often are we supposed to service these?
my 03 x50 tip is getting .9 bar currently in stock mode....
thinking of doing the ecu and airbox/exhaust...so will do DV /f hose at the same time for sure and hence am collecting info. thanks for your replies.

The stock DVs are a "diaphragm" type of valve, different design than the billet DVs. The stock DVs fail most commonly from tears of the diaphragm, allowing boost leak.
Everyone has their opinion as to which type of DV is best. There are pros and cons of each type.
