I left the helper springs in. I am all the way at the bottom of the adjustment and I am maybe a .5 lower than stock. I was hoping for more like 1.25" drop. Sounds like we have the same issue.

Let me know what you find

I wanted to revive an old thread here...

I purchased the H&R new street coilovers on my 996tt. After receiving them, I opted to purchase a set of Tarret camber plates and rear shock mounts. The new style H&R street coilovers are identical to the PSS10's except that they do not have an adjustable damper. They are more like the Bilstein PSS. The new style uses a 2.5" front spring and the upper spring seat from the Bilstein kit. Upon reviewing the setup, I decided to go ahead and use the Mode Inc. upper spring seat kit that is used in this thread. Since the H&R's are really just the same as the Bilstein's, I figured why not...

The assembly I ended up with is the H&R street coilover, the Mode Inc. Upper Seat, and Tarret Engineering Camber Plate and shock mount.

I've installed them and my initial impressions are quite surprising. The ride is actually softer than my original suspension. I am very impressed with the ride quality. The handling is very precise over the stock suspension yet very compliant and smooth. I couldn't be happier with the ride quality.

The ONE issue that I am running into is the ride height adjustment for the front. The lower adjustable perch is bottomed out on the threaded body and I am only lower by approximately 0.5". I noticed that other individuals have had the same issue. I believe the Mode Inc. upper seat is the cause of this.

I am going to disassemble my coilovers this weekend and remove the tender spring from the assembly. This will allow you to have the full range of adjustment intended for the setup.

Pictures attached.

- Chris.

The problem is the fact that you have "raised" your car in the front due to the taller mode mounts. If you take out the helper springs you will be able to lower the car further but at the expense of severely limited shock travel which will kill your ride quality since you will bottom out the front shocks rather easily. Make sure you are set up according to the H&R instructions which require a setting in the front to measure 110-120mm from the center of the strut mounting bolt to the bottom of the spring (top edge of the spring mount). If you go any lower than 100mm your ride and handling will suffer. This works out to seeing about 3/8" of threads below the spring mount and the strut mount.

Thanks for the head's up. I am not trying to lower my car excessively. As it sits now, it is about .5" lower than stock ride height. I would like to lower it about .5" more.

The mode upper seats are really a nice option over what H&R/Bilstein provides.

Hello Chris,
The height problem you’re having is because the spring hats are adding at least 1” to the spring stack height. There should have been some adaptors, with the H&R kit, that will allow for the springs to be loaded up against the bottom of the camber plates, not the monoball. See the picture of the H&R kit below. The adaptor is the silver wedge shaped part above the spring. There should be a similar adaptor with the PSS9 kit as well. Using the adaptor will allow for the full range of height adjustment. The adaptors are compatible with both the stock, and the Tarett upper mounts. Hope that helps.

Ira

Thanks Ira,

Question.... Does the OEM thrust bearing that came out of the strut top go between the H&R top seat and the camber plate? Looking at the picture it appears so but I wanted to know for sure.

I would like to publicly send out a HUGE thank you to Ira at Tarett Engineering. I purchased a set of camber plates and shock mounts for my H&R setup and I've had a small issue with my camber plates. Ira has gone above and beyond to help me with the issue and resolve my problem.

We seem to live in a world where customer service is an exception, and Ira has been excellent.

Thank you so much sir,

Chris Hamilton
