Using stock internals, how much hp do 997s...
sorry, figured since its the 996 turbo forum it was obvious.
a 996 TT and 997 TT both with stock internals. whats the max hp each car make with bolt ons?

Look at the stock ones: 996tt 415bhp vs. 997tt 480bhp, big difference in power at stock levels. 997tt has longer cylinders and a different compression ratio, so for the same amount of HP mod, the 997tt will be faster. Now if you tweak the turbos and start playing around with a lot more mods then you can make either one a monster.
Correct me if Im wrong. The thing is if everything is equal with a turbo car ie, same turbos, fuel mods, exhaust, etc the turbos are the limiting factor. A turbo only can flow so much air on either motor. I belive the 997 most likely has larger turbos from the factory thus it is probrably the way to go if you have the money and are staying on stock turbos, but as most 996 owners are figuring out stock turbos are so 2003.
the engines are exactly the same.. Same bore and stroke. The difference is in the VGT turbos. So if you are asking how much hp can the internals of a 997tt take, it would be the same as a 996tt. How much that is, is a matter of opinion. Some people say 650 awhp is the limit some say it is much more. If I am not mistaken Divextreme's car had 880 whp and it had a stock bottom end, but I could be wrong about this so don't quote me.

conclusion: if u plan on upgrading turbo etc, no reason to ignore the 9996tt over the 997tt.
If you are only going to do a tune and not replace turbos, then I think the 997tt's factory turbos are much better than the 996tt's, so consider that as well. The 997tt also has aluminum doors, which should be lighter, but it seems like the 996tt is actually much lighter. My manual, all stock 996tt weighed in at 3650 lbs with me in it and 5/'8 of a tank of gas. I weigh 210lbs and if you add the 80-100 lbs of fuel that would make my car 3350 lbs curb weight. Curb weight for the 997tt is 35xx lbs. So the 996tt has lesser turbos but less weight to deal with. I have no desire to go to a 997tt, but If I had a 997tt I would have no desire to go to a 996tt. I like both cars.
