My recent EPL Tune

I just wanted to share my experience with a new custom dyno tune at EPL. We disconnected the Greddy EBC valve that I have been using for 2.5 years (but left the boost gauge function for a second display) and went back to the stock valve with ECU controlled boost. I did this as Tony has a 1.3 bar pump fuel file and I would only run 1.18 bar with the Greddy on pump (as some of the factory safeguards are removed when you use the Greddy). This change allowed me to run and enjoy more boost than I am accustomed to, with more safeguards in place, on a daily basis. My car feels faster than ever and is operating so well, I thought I would share for anyone that may be interested in an EPL tune. The car has K24/18G turbos, dual fuel pumps, 60lb. injectors, 75mm throtle body and IPD plenum, custom 75mm Y-Pipe & boost hose package, EVOMS 70MM fresh air intake tubes, upgraded IC's and dual snorkel air intake. With all these mods, you might think the car may have glitches or odd manners at times, but just the opposite is true. The car runs perfectly and so smooth under all conditions - just like when I just picked it up at the dealer when new. Again, I just thought I would share for anyone considering an EPL tune.

Congrats John, it's about time you put your "full package" to work with some boost!!! Your car has so much potential with all the supporting mods you have. Did you see a decent increase in power?

great,

how about a trap speed with your new tune and higher boost?

Sounds good John,I always felt that there is no reason to have a boost controller on a 700hp pump gas car.Did you do any before/after dynos?

We did not do a before and after dyno that day. The previous dynos that I have are from last year, which yielded about 550 AWHP with race gas at 1.27 bar on EPL's Mustang dyno. This year with the new 1.3 bar pump tune, we only saw about 530 AWHP, but it was a hot, humid day and the previous year dyno was done on a cooler, non-humid day. Tony stated that in cooler weather the numbers would have been about 25HP stronger, which would put it about where it was on race fuel last year at 1.27 bar. I feel certain that the car is faster with this tune from a daily driver standpoint, but with race fuel and the Greddy turned up a bit, I am not sure there is any difference. The advantage to me is that I only spent a day or two at the track each year at high boost on the Greddy, but I drive the car all the time. Now I have the power of my former track days, every day, which is the main reason I went this route. I also liked the idea of re-introducing the factory safeguards.

John, what all do you need for the 1.3 bar pump gas tune. Right now I have a EPL tune and see 1.2 bar on the factory boost gauge so would it make that big of a difference.

I believe it is just a file update. A year ago, Tony was only tuning at about 1.2 bar, but over time he has become comfortable with introducing a little more boost, as several cars have been running 1.3 bar or more (by request) for a year now with no problems and good datalog readings. 1.3 bar seems to be a good pump gas, street tune. If you are looking for all out performance, you can do a little better running race gas and slightly higher boost. For my typical use, this flash suits me very well and I like it a lot.

Nice plan John. I am a big fan of the factory ECU and its safeguards as well.

Tony,

I have been meaning to ask you...How will this tune respond to race fuel? Will it enhance the current power or is a separate file required to take advantage of race fuel?

Congrats John, glad the car is up to your liking. Hopefully there will be some cool Fall days at Epping to run her thru her paces. I am actually taking a car up to the Winnepesaukee region this week and I am looking forward to the drive. Been a long time since I have been thru the sticks of NH....

I would love to hear more opinion on this as well as I have heard more than one EVOMS user say their tune "recognizes" higher octane automatically and adjusts timing and provides more power..... ??
