996 Turbo weight question
996 Turbo weight question
I was looking at the different curb weights of different 2004 911 variants, and I've noticed that the 911 Turbo seems to weigh a good bit more than all of the others, even 92 pounds more than the C4S Cab, which is rated the heaviest after the turbo and turbo cab. 148 lbs more than the C4S coupe, which is the one I thought it'd be closest to.
What are the reasons for this? I'd think that the turbos wouldn't add a ton of weight, but their curb weights suggest a good bit more weight, even compared to other 911's with both widebody and AWD.

gt1 block, oil can with 9+ quarts of oil making the car far more track capable in terms of avoiding oil starvation...totally different engine.... But the torque and HP and mod-ability make up for that weight big time.
I'd rather have a gt1 block anyday over an M96 variant....I defer judgement on the DFI engines (and yes , the Porsche PR video is impressive). Time will tell with the new engines.

really? my last change it took 9 to get the meter to the top.
But I think JCB was referring to modifying for additional oil reserve area.

Turbos, 1-quart more of oil, IC's, IC frames, IC piping, stiffer chassis after 2001( I have read that the turbo chassis from 2002 is stiffened up, but have to dig that up.)
Not sure what a C4s weighs, but my car with 5/8 tank of gas, me(210lbs), plus 20-30 lbs of gear weighed 3650lbs at the track. If you remove 6-7 gallons of fuel (50lbs), my 210lbs, plus 30 lbs of gear, which totals 290lbs, the weight dry is 3360lbs, which isn't all that bad. I have a custom exhaust which is approximately 20 lbs lighter than stock, so bone stock it would have weighed 3380. I also have the plush all power seats, which do everything but tickle your cojones.

just had my car corner balanced again recently and my 2001 TT came in at 3376 including myself and a half tank of gas... comes out to about 3200 lbs with me out of the car. there are always ways to save some weight. :P
pretty good weight loss. about 180 less than stock. I just did the lwfw and have carbon GT3 replica seats which should save 60 lbs over my plush multi function electric powered seats. So between seats and Lwfw I should be about 80 lbs less than now which will be about 3270. Still stock exterior.
